Vivo V50 Built Its Midrange Pitch Around Indian Weddings

Vivo priced the V50 from Rs 34,999 in India and aimed its camera software at a market it measured at 2 billion wedding photos a year. The phone was unveiled on February 17, 2025, with sales from February 25, as a slim 6000 mAh portrait handset rather than a faster midrange chip.

The company said an internal study found those 2 billion photos are taken annually at Indian weddings on phones priced above Rs 25,000. That figure, not a benchmark chart, is what the V50 was built around.

Launch pricing was Rs 34,999 for 8 GB and 128 GB, Rs 36,999 for 8 GB and 256 GB, and Rs 40,999 for 12 GB and 512 GB. Pre-booking opened the same day at vivo stores and partner shops, with sales on Flipkart, Amazon, vivo’s site, and retail from February 25.

LAUNCH VARIANTS IN INDIA

The Flipkart figures sit Rs 2,008, Rs 2,000, and Rs 3,000 below those launch tickets. They are street listings, not a second official price list. Online launch extras included up to 10% off on HDFC and SBI cards or a 10% exchange bonus, six-month no-cost EMI, a free extra year of warranty, and vivo TWS 3e earbuds at Rs 1,499 in a bundle.

What India’s Exclusive Wedding Portrait Studio Does

The software vivo hung on that study is India’s Exclusive Wedding Portrait Studio. It merges Wedding-Style Portrait with Film Camera Mode and applies five film tones: Cold Film, Sunshine, Collection of Lost Pieces, Vivid, and Wedding.

Vivo’s product footnote dates the claim to January 20, 2025, and calls the V50 the first phone with a dedicated, independently developed wedding studio of that kind. The pitch is one-tap colour and grain that look closer to a printed album than to a default portrait slider.

The 50MP ultrawide is specified at a 119.4° field of view, with AI Group Portrait tuned for as many as 30 faces. The 50MP front camera uses a 92° wide view, 0.8x to 2x zoom, and AI 3D Studio Lighting 2.0 for backlit group selfies. Vivo staged the India briefing at a wedding venue in Delhi, which matches the brief more than a hotel ballroom does.

Three 50MP Lenses and Seven ZEISS Bokeh Looks

Hardware under that software is a 50MP ZEISS OIS main camera (1/1.55-inch class, f/1.88), a 50MP ultrawide (f/2.0, autofocus), and a 50MP autofocus selfie (f/2.0). All three record 4K. A colour spectrum sensor sits with a ring LED flash. There is no dedicated telephoto; 2x portraits come from an in-sensor crop on the main camera.

ZEISS Multifocal Portrait offers 23 mm, 35 mm, and 50 mm. On top of those, vivo listed seven named bokeh styles.

Reviewers who lived with the phone called portraits the reason to buy it and were cooler on fine facial detail and on the chip. That split is the product. The screen is a 6.77-inch (17.19 cm) quad-curved AMOLED at 2392 × 1080, 120 Hz, HDR10+, 387 ppi, 4,500 nits local peak and 1,300 nits global, with a 41° edge curve. Earlier V phones used 1.5K panels. This one gives that pixel count back to the battery and the curve.

Inside is the same class of chip as the V40, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 mobile platform (SM7550-AB, 4 nm), with a 2.63 GHz Kryo peak, Adreno 720 graphics, LPDDR4X RAM, and UFS 2.2 storage. Vivo cites Qualcomm lab numbers of 15% more CPU performance and 50% more GPU performance versus Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. Qualcomm’s own 7 Gen 3 page lists 15% improved performance and 20% better power use against its prior generation. It is a midrange part with the same architecture family as Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, not an 8-series die.

That is the trade. The money went into the cell, the ZEISS stack, IP69, and the curve. Buyers who wanted a newer 7-series or 7+ part had to wait for the V60, or spend in another brand’s aisle in February 2025.

Rose Red, Starry Night, and a Wedding Briefing in Delhi

This is the first V-series phone with both IP68 and IP69, plus a quad-curved face. IP68 is immersion; IP69 adds high-pressure, high-temperature jets. Vivo rates fresh-water immersion at 1.5 meters for 30 minutes and sells a speaker-drain trick for underwater stills. The V50e and V60 Kept the Wedding Playbook

Vivo did not ship a V50 Pro. It split the idea downward and then forward.

The grouse that followed the V line is blunt. Each new V phone keeps the portrait kit, lifts the ticket, and stays in Qualcomm’s 7-series. People who wanted a jump in raw speed said so in 2025, and they said it again when later V models landed.
