Riverdale Standard publishes news. This page explains what that does and does not mean when you rely on it. We write it plainly, because the readers who most need it are the ones reading a story about a currency move, a drug trial, a recall or a flight disruption minutes before they make a decision, and they deserve to know exactly how far they can lean on what they just read.

Business coverage is not financial advice

Our business desk reports on companies, banks, markets, currencies and the economy. It does not tell you what to buy, sell or hold. A story about a company’s results is not a recommendation about its shares. A story about a rate decision is not a forecast of your mortgage. A story about a listing, a token or a fund is not a statement that it is safe. Nothing on this site is financial, investment, tax or trading advice, and nothing on it creates any professional relationship between you and us. If money is at stake, consult someone who is licensed to advise you and who has seen your position.

Science and lifestyle coverage is not medical advice

Our science and lifestyle desks describe research, trends and practices. A story about a study is a description of what the study found and how, including its limitations, not a recommendation to start, stop or change any treatment, diet, exercise or medication. Findings are reported as findings, and a single study is reported as a single study. Nothing on this site is medical, nutritional, psychological or fitness advice. If your health is involved, speak to a clinician who can examine you.

Technology, auto and gaming coverage is not purchasing advice

Specifications, prices, availability, compatibility and features are reported as manufacturers, publishers and retailers publish them, and they change between announcement and shipping, between regions, and between the day we wrote the story and the day you read it. A review describes what we observed with the unit, vehicle or build we had, under the conditions we describe. It is not a guarantee that a product will suit you, work with what you own, or be sold at the price we quoted. Check the seller’s current listing before you spend money.

Travel coverage is not a safety or booking guarantee

Our travel desk reports on destinations, routes, fares, visa rules, strikes and disruptions. Entry requirements, advisories, prices and schedules change without notice, and a story about them is accurate as of the time it was written. Nothing on this site replaces the official advice of your own government, the airline’s current notice or the terms of your booking. Check them before you travel.

Sports, world and other coverage

Scores, standings, fixtures and statistics are reported from the official record and may be corrected by the governing body after publication. World news is reported from the best available material at the time and updated as the record changes; the date and time on a story tell you when that was. Nothing on this site is legal, immigration, engineering, security or betting advice, and no story about a match, an election or a court case is a prediction of how it will end.

Accuracy and timeliness

We check our work before publication and correct it afterward, as our fact checking and corrections policies describe. Even so, errors happen, and facts change. A story carries the date and time it was published and, where it has been updated, the time of the update. Older stories are left in place as a record of what was known at the time; they are not rewritten to reflect later events unless a correction is required. Read the date before you rely on a story, especially for prices, exchange rates, release dates, schedules, legal status and the terms of a deal.

Claims, forecasts and quotations

When an organisation states a figure, a forecast, a delivery date, an attendance number or a sales total, we report it as that organisation’s claim and we say so. Reporting a claim is not verifying it, and a claim we could not check is labelled that way. When we quote a person, we are reporting that they said it, not endorsing it. Officials, executives, athletes, spokespeople and the people we interview are responsible for the accuracy of their own statements; we report them because they are newsworthy and we challenge them where we can.

Opinion, analysis and reviews

Where we publish opinion, analysis or a review, it is labelled as such, and the views are those of the writer, not necessarily of Riverdale Standard. A review of a film, a game, a car or a hotel is one person’s considered account of one experience, and your experience may differ.

Links, embeds and advertising

Stories link to records, documents, official sites and other material so you can check us. We do not control those sites. Their content may change, disappear or be wrong, and their privacy practices are their own. Embedded content, such as a social media post that is itself the news, is shown as published by its author. A link or embed is a citation, never an endorsement. Advertisements on this site are labelled and served through a third-party network; we do not publish sponsored content or paid links, and we are not responsible for advertisers’ claims or a party to any purchase you make from them.

Images

Photographs and graphics are used to illustrate stories. Where an image is a file photo, a stock image, a manufacturer’s rendering, a screenshot or an illustration rather than a picture of the specific event described, the caption says so. We do not publish synthetic images of real events or real people presented as photographs.

Errors and no warranty

If you find an error, write to support@riverdalestandard.com with CORRECTION in the subject line and the link. We will look at it the same day. The site and everything on it are provided as they are, without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, Riverdale Standard is not liable for loss or damage, including trading, purchasing or travel losses, arising from reliance on anything published here.
