Agreement to these terms
These terms govern your use of riverdalestandard.com and any newsletter, alert or feed Riverdale Standard publishes from it. By reading the site you agree to them. If you do not agree, the remedy is simple and free: do not use the site. We have tried to write these terms in plain language because a reader in Riverdale should not need a lawyer to know what they have agreed to by reading the news.
Who we are
Riverdale Standard is an independently owned news publisher based in the state of Georgia, United States, covering Riverdale, Clayton County and the south metro Atlanta area, together with national and world news. Our editorial policies, ownership and funding are described on their own pages, and those pages form part of the promise we make to readers, though they are not part of this legal agreement.
Using the site
You may read, link to, and share our articles for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may quote short passages with attribution to Riverdale Standard and a link to the original. You may not reproduce whole articles, systematically copy or scrape the site, republish our content on another site or service, or use our content to train automated systems, without our written permission. Search engines indexing the site in the ordinary way are fine. Bulk collection is not.
You agree not to attempt to interfere with the operation of the site, probe or breach its security, submit content designed to impersonate others or to deceive, or use the site for any unlawful purpose. We may block access from any source that we believe is abusing the site, without notice.
Our content and intellectual property
The articles, headlines, photographs, graphics, design and code of this site belong to Riverdale Standard or to the licensors who have allowed us to use them. The name Riverdale Standard and the site’s visual identity are ours, and using them in a way that suggests we endorse or produced something we did not is not permitted. Public documents we reproduce, such as county agendas or court filings, remain public; our presentation of them is ours.
What you send us
When you send us a tip, a letter, a photograph or any other material, you keep the copyright in it. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to publish, edit, excerpt and archive it in connection with our journalism, in any format, with or without attribution as you and we agree. You confirm that you have the right to send it and that publishing it will not infringe anyone else’s rights. We are not obliged to publish anything you send, and we may edit anything we do publish. Material sent in confidence is handled under the rules on our contact page, which take priority over this paragraph where they conflict.
If comments or other public contributions are enabled on the site, you are responsible for what you post. We may remove anything that is unlawful, defamatory, threatening, discriminatory, spam, or simply off the subject, and we may bar people who repeatedly post such material. We do not pre-screen contributions and we are not their publisher.
Advertising and sponsored content
Ads on the site are clearly labeled, and sponsored content carries a label saying who paid for it. We are not a party to any transaction between you and an advertiser, and we make no promises about advertisers’ products or services. The rules for what advertising we accept are on our advertise page.
Links to other sites
Our stories link to source documents, official sites and other material where it helps you check our work. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy or privacy practices. A link is a citation, not an endorsement.
Accuracy, and the limits of what we can promise
We work to be accurate and we correct errors quickly, as our corrections policy describes. But news is produced under time pressure and the world changes after publication. The site is provided as it is and as it is available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose or uninterrupted availability. Nothing on the site is professional advice; our disclaimer page says more.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Riverdale Standard and the people who work on it are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special or punitive damages arising from your use of the site or your reliance on anything published on it, including lost profits, lost data or business interruption. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us to use the site, which is nothing. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, and in those places these limits apply only as far as the law permits.
Indemnity
If you send us material that infringes someone’s rights, or use the site in a way that breaks these terms and causes a claim against us, you agree to cover the costs and damages that result, including reasonable legal fees.
Copyright complaints
If you believe material on the site infringes your copyright, follow the process on our DMCA page. It sets out what a notice must contain and what happens next.
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia and applicable federal law of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising from these terms or your use of the site will be brought in the state or federal courts with jurisdiction over Clayton County, Georgia, and you consent to their jurisdiction. If you are a consumer in a jurisdiction whose law gives you the right to sue where you live, nothing here removes that right. Before filing anything, write to us; most disputes about a news site are corrections in disguise, and those we can fix in an afternoon.
Changes and termination
We may update these terms. The date at the top of the page changes when we do, and a material change is announced on the site before it takes effect. Continuing to use the site after that date means you accept the updated terms. We may suspend or end access to the site, or any part of it, at any time, though we hope never to need to.
General
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in force. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. These terms, together with the privacy policy and cookie policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about the site.
