Contact Riverdale Standard

One address, read by editors

Every message to Riverdale Standard goes to support@riverdalestandard.com. It is the only address we publish and the only one we answer from. It is read and sorted by our own editors rather than a ticketing service or an automated responder, and it is checked throughout the day, including weekends, because news on the south side of metro Atlanta does not keep office hours.

Put the purpose of your message at the front of the subject line. CORRECTION, TIP, PITCH, ADVERTISING, PRIVACY or LEGAL is enough. If your message concerns a specific story, paste the link, not just the headline. Headlines change; links do not.

Corrections and complaints about coverage

If we have published something factually wrong, write with CORRECTION in the subject line, include the link, and quote the sentence or figure you are disputing. Street and subdivision names, vote counts, meeting dates, dollar amounts and the spelling of local place names are what we most often get wrong and what we most want to hear about. If you have the document that shows the correct version, attach it or describe where to find it. Our corrections policy explains what happens once your message arrives and how quickly.

Complaints about how a story was framed, a headline you think is unfair, or a photo you think should not have been used go to the same address. Where we can, they are read by an editor who was not involved in the story. If you want a reply rather than a change, say so, and you will get one.

News tips from Clayton County and the south metro

Tips are the reason the local desk exists. A notice posted at the county annex, a rezoning sign that went up on Highway 85 overnight, a school board packet item nobody else noticed, a water bill that doubled with no explanation, a road closure that the project sign got wrong: send it, and tell us where and when you saw it. A photograph of the document or sign is worth more than a description of it. If you were at a public meeting we did not attend, what was said and who said it is exactly the kind of message we want.

We read every tip. We cannot follow up on every one, and we will not publish anything on the strength of a tip alone. What a tip does is tell us where to look.

Sending something confidential

If sending us something could put your job, your housing or your immigration status at risk, protect yourself first. Write from a personal account on a personal device, not from a work or school system. Make CONFIDENTIAL the first word of the subject line so the message is handled that way from the moment it lands. Do not send the sensitive material in that first message. We will reply to agree on a safer channel before you send anything that could identify you.

We do not identify sources to anyone, including advertisers, lawyers and public officials. If we cannot protect you, we will tell you before you send, not after.

Pitches and press releases

Freelance pitches are welcome, especially from people who live in the parts of the south metro we cannot cover well from a desk. Two or three paragraphs is enough: what the story is, who you can talk to, what documents exist, and how long you think it will take. We pay for accepted work and will tell you the rate before you start.

Press releases should be pasted as plain text in the body of the message. We do not open unsolicited attachments from addresses we do not recognize. A release will be treated as one source among several, never as a finished story.

Advertising and partnerships

Advertising, sponsorship and partnership inquiries go to the same address with ADVERTISING in the subject line. Our advertise page describes what we sell, what we refuse, and how sponsored content is labeled. Rates are provided on request. Advertising inquiries are handled separately from editorial mail, and nothing you tell us in a sales conversation reaches the newsroom.

Privacy, legal and copyright requests

Requests to access or delete personal data, questions about cookies, and requests under any state privacy law should carry PRIVACY in the subject. Copyright notices should follow the format on our DMCA page and carry LEGAL in the subject. Formal legal correspondence should also come to this address; we will confirm receipt and, where a physical service address is legally required, provide it in reply.

What this inbox is not

We are a newsroom, not a county service desk. We cannot fix a water bill, process a permit, reschedule a court date or reach a police officer for you. If you are reporting an emergency, call 911. If you need a county department, its own published contact information will get you there faster than we can. What we can do is find out why a system is failing many people at once, so if your problem is one others are also having, tell us that.

Response times

Corrections are acknowledged the same day and usually resolved within hours. Tips get a reply when we have a question or when a story results. Pitches are answered within a week. Privacy and legal requests are acknowledged within two business days. If you have waited longer than that, write again with the original subject line; it is far more likely to be a sorting failure than a decision to ignore you.
