TVS Motor is developing a 160cc liquid-cooled maxi-scooter on a fresh platform, with Autocar Professional reporting the India launch is targeted for next year. It would be TVS Motor Company’s first proper maxi-scooter, entering a segment where Honda and Yamaha each have a new product confirmed to arrive before TVS does.
No spy shots have surfaced yet. The reporting confirms a liquid-cooled engine on a clean-sheet platform, with production at TVS’s Hosur facility in Tamil Nadu and European markets planned alongside India.
The Gap Ntorq 150 Left Open
TVS launched the Ntorq 150 on September 4, 2025, pricing it at Rs 1.19 lakh for the standard variant and Rs 1.29 lakh for the TFT model, both ex-showroom, per TVS Motor Company’s official launch release. The scooter ran a 149.7cc air-cooled engine making 13.2PS and 14.2Nm, sat on 12-inch wheels at both ends, and shared its tubular frame with the Ntorq 125.
The feature package was competitive. A 5-inch colour TFT cluster on the top variant came loaded with SmartXonnect, TVS’s connected-scooter platform: 50-plus functions including Alexa integration, OTA software updates, turn-by-turn navigation, and geo-fencing. Traction control was standard. Quad LED projector headlights gave the front end a distinctive look. Its 0-60kmph time of 6.3 seconds earned it the “India’s quickest hyper sport scooter” tag at launch, and that timing claim held up in independent tests.
The platform was a different question. Most buyers and observers had expected a 14-inch wheel, liquid-cooled machine, the hardware profile that would position TVS alongside the Yamaha Aerox 155 and Hero Xoom 160 on engineering. TVS kept the Ntorq architecture largely unchanged. Autocar India noted that many had assumed the Ntorq 150 would arrive as a proper 14-inch maxi-scooter. BikeDekho’s test of the launch model said it plainly:
it doesn’t feel like the natural upgrade for someone already riding an Ntorq 125.
BikeDekho acknowledged the strong features and quick acceleration while flagging the air-cooled, 12-inch-wheel platform as the gap between what the scooter offered and what maxi-scooter buyers in this price bracket were looking for.
The Yamaha Aerox 155 runs a 155cc liquid-cooled engine on 14-inch wheels, priced from around Rs 1.43 lakh. The Hero Xoom 160 debuted at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025 at Rs 1.49 lakh with a 156cc liquid-cooled motor and an adventure-touring stance. Against both, the 150 priced itself below the segment while carrying hardware short of it.
A Fresh Platform, Built for Highways
Autocar India, citing Autocar Professional, says the new 160cc scooter will go “in a different direction” from the Ntorq range, developed on a completely fresh platform. The Ntorq 150 borrowed the 125cc sibling’s frame type, wheel size, and basic packaging philosophy. The 160cc project starts over.
The confirmed engine switch is from air to liquid cooling, giving TVS its first liquid-cooled unit in any scooter below 300cc. Liquid-cooled engines sustain power delivery better under extended high-speed load, which matters when the marketing pitch is highway capability. BikeAdvice.in places expected peak output in the 14-15bhp range, in line with the Aerox and the Xoom on paper. Fourteen-inch wheels or larger and a longer wheelbase are expected for highway stability; some degree of integrated front wind protection is anticipated for touring use.
TVS has a documented history with packaging choices its rivals hadn’t tried. The Jupiter was the first mainstream Indian scooter to move its fuel tank behind the front apron rather than under the seat, freeing a flat floorboard and the underseat area for storage. Whether that engineering logic extends to the 160cc platform or TVS follows the underbone frame approach used by Yamaha and Hero in this class will shape how practical the scooter is on intercity runs.
BikeAdvice.in places production at TVS’s Hosur facility in Tamil Nadu, with European and other global markets confirmed alongside India. TVS Motor’s international two-wheeler shipments hit a record 1,58,546 units in May 2026, up 48.34% on the prior year, and a liquid-cooled premium scooter adds a competitive product to the brand’s European catalogue in markets where the NMax 155 and the ADV160 already have established momentum. How the 160cc Field Lines Up
The Aerox arrived in India in 2021 as the first liquid-cooled performance scooter in this displacement class. Autocar India later described it as “the surprise success” of its category. When Hero followed with the Xoom 160 at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025, the two scooters carried nearly identical power figures in very different bodies. Their head-to-head specification comparison shows how differently the same power band can be read on weight and design brief.

The 16kg gap between the Aerox at 126kg and the Xoom at 142kg reflects two different design decisions made within the same power range. Aerox buyers get a lighter, sportier package with independent tests clocking top speed at 111kmph. Xoom buyers get a taller stance, a central spine, a wider front tyre, and a posture suited to longer distances. TVS entering with a 14-15bhp estimate puts it in the same power band as both, so the platform design brief has to define it by something else.
TVS’s pricing pattern on the Ntorq 150 is consistent: it entered the market Rs 20,000-30,000 below the Aerox and the Xoom at Rs 1.19 lakh while leading on connected features. The same logic applied to the 160cc platform would position it as the accessible option in a segment where the ADV160 shapes up as the premium product and the Aerox remains the established sporty benchmark.
Honda and Yamaha Are Both On Their Way
The maxi-scooter segment added one product in four years after the Aerox’s 2021 arrival. Before TVS shows up in late 2027, two more liquid-cooled models from Honda and Yamaha are both confirmed for India.
Honda ADV160
Autocar India reported the ADV160 will launch in India within the next two quarters, meaning late 2026 or early 2027. Internally codenamed K4LA, the ADV160 runs a 157cc liquid-cooled engine producing 16bhp at 8,500rpm and 14.7Nm at 6,500rpm, the segment’s highest confirmed output figure. Honda is localising production for both domestic and export markets. The machine weighs 133kg, seats the rider at 780mm, gives 165mm of ground clearance, and holds 27 litres of underseat storage. An adjustable windscreen, keyless ignition, digital dashboard, and all-LED lighting come standard. Autocar India notes the scooter will likely sell through Honda’s BigWing premium dealership network, placing it above the Aerox and the Xoom at the showroom level.
The ADV160 uses an underbone frame, meaning the floorboard carries no storage, the same packaging trade-off the Aerox and the Xoom both accept. Suspension is a 31mm Showa telescopic fork with twin Showa rear shocks. Braking runs to a 240mm front disc with ABS and a 130mm rear drum. Wheel sizes are 14-inch front and 13-inch rear, unlike the 14-inch-at-both-ends setup used by both the Aerox and the Xoom.
Yamaha NMax 155
The NMax 155 is expected in India by late 2026, per BikeAdvice.in, locally manufactured at Yamaha’s Chennai facility for competitive pricing. It uses the same 155cc liquid-cooled engine as the Aerox, producing 14.8bhp and 14Nm, but in a touring-oriented package: a more upright posture, dual-channel ABS (single-channel on the Aerox), a 4.2-inch TFT display with ride modes and turn-by-turn navigation, and seating designed for longer distances. Yamaha fielding both the Aerox and the Yamaha NMax 155 in India simultaneously is a product bet that the category can sustain a sporty variant and a touring variant at the same price bracket.
By the time the TVS 160cc scooter reaches Indian showrooms, the segment that held one product for most of 2021-2024 could have four, each with its own established owner community and resale market ahead of TVS’s arrival.
The Features TVS Cannot Afford to Skip
TVS’s clearest software advantage going into this product is the SmartXonnect ecosystem, which already connects more than two million Ntorq riders. BikeAdvice.in reports the 160cc scooter is expected to draw feature DNA from the TVS X electric scooter, the brand’s most premium two-wheeler. TVS launched SmartXonnect with the Ntorq 125 and expanded it through the Ntorq 150 and the Apache motorcycle range; that infrastructure took years to mature, and competitors entering the connected-scooter space now are building toward a baseline TVS set earlier. Carrying that forward would give TVS a user-base advantage at launch that Honda and Yamaha cannot quickly replicate in the Indian market.
Hardware is where the new scooter will be held to account. Three gaps have followed the Ntorq line since the 125cc era:
- Dual-channel ABS. The current Ntorq runs single-channel. The Yamaha NMax 155, confirmed for late 2026, arrives with dual-channel standard. At Rs 1.50 lakh and above, single-channel ABS will be the specification buyers draw the most direct comparisons on.
- Rear disc brake. The platform currently uses a 130mm rear drum. Requests for a rear disc have followed the Ntorq line since the 125cc era, and the 160cc scooter’s premium positioning makes deferring that specification again harder to defend.
- Helmet-capable under-seat storage. Current underseat storage sits at 22 litres. The Honda ADV160 arrives with 27 litres. The maxi-scooter buyer segment specifically values space for a full-face helmet, and 22 litres doesn’t consistently clear that bar at this price point.
BikeAdvice.in reports the late-2027 India window. That gives TVS roughly 18 months of field data on the ADV160 and the NMax 155 before its own production specifications lock in.
