A major controversy has erupted around rapper Badshah after an FIR was registered in Haryana over his newly released Haryanvi track “Tateeree.” Police teams have begun raids at multiple locations to locate the singer, while authorities have also started the process to issue a lookout notice.
The case has triggered a wider debate about music content, artistic freedom and responsibility in popular culture. As legal action unfolds, the rapper has now issued a public apology and removed the song from online platforms.
Why ‘Tateeree’ Song Triggered Legal Action
The controversy began soon after “Tateeree” was released on March 1. The song quickly spread across YouTube and social media platforms, drawing millions of views within days.
However, complaints soon followed.
A Panchkula resident and social activist filed a complaint alleging that the music video contains objectionable lyrics and visuals that send the wrong message to society.
According to the complaint, the video shows girls wearing school uniforms dancing in scenes considered inappropriate.
Another point of criticism focused on a setting in the video referred to as “Badshala,” which some complainants said appears to mock the word “Pathshala,” meaning school.
Authorities say the visuals could influence young viewers and potentially harm the dignity of women and minors.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case under the following provisions:
• Section 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita
• Sections 3 and 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986
Officials confirmed that the video and related content are being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
Haryana Police Conduct Raids, Lookout Notice Process Begins
The investigation quickly escalated after the FIR was filed at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Panchkula.
Police officials said several teams have been formed to locate the rapper, whose real name is Aditya Prateek Singh Sisodia.
Multiple police teams are currently conducting raids at various possible locations to trace Badshah.
Authorities also confirmed that the process to issue a Look Out Circular has been initiated.
A Look Out Circular is typically used when authorities want to track a person who may travel abroad or avoid investigation.
Officials also said the controversial video has been removed from YouTube, and steps are being taken to take it down from other platforms.
Key actions taken so far include:
• FIR registered in Panchkula cybercrime police station
• Multiple police teams deployed for investigation
• Look Out Circular process initiated
• Song removed from YouTube
• Requests made to remove video from other platforms
Police also warned that strict action could be taken against those circulating objectionable clips online.
Women’s Commission Summons Badshah
The Haryana State Commission for Women has also stepped into the matter.
The commission took suo motu cognisance after receiving complaints from social groups and activists.
These complaints alleged that the song contains language that objectifies women and minors.
The commission has summoned Badshah to appear before it on March 13 in Panipat.
Officials say the hearing will examine whether the lyrics and visuals violate standards related to women’s dignity and representation.
The summons also asked authorities to ensure the presence of all concerned parties during the proceedings.
Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda has additionally ordered an inquiry into another issue raised in the controversy.
The music video allegedly shows dancers performing on a Haryana Roadways bus marked “Jind Depot.”
Officials said the government is investigating how a state owned bus may have been used in the video without authorization.
Badshah Issues Public Apology After Backlash
As criticism grew online, Badshah released an apology addressing the controversy.
In a video message shared on social media, the rapper expressed regret if the song hurt anyone’s sentiments.
He appealed to the public for forgiveness and emphasized his connection to the state.
“I hope you will forgive me by considering me the son of Haryana,” he said in the video.
The singer also confirmed that the song is being removed from all platforms.
The apology came as public reactions intensified across social media.
Some users criticized the song for crossing ethical boundaries.
Others argued that the backlash raises questions about creative freedom in music and whether artists are being unfairly targeted.
Growing Debate Around Music, Culture and Responsibility
The Tateeree controversy has reopened a familiar debate in India’s entertainment industry.
Where should the line be drawn between artistic expression and social responsibility?
Music videos often use dramatic visuals to attract viewers, especially in the digital era where content spreads rapidly across platforms.
But critics argue that content featuring minors or school settings demands extra caution.
Supporters of stricter regulation say such content can normalize problematic behaviour.
On the other hand, many artists argue that music and storytelling should not face excessive censorship.
Investigators say they will review the song’s lyrics, visuals and production details before deciding further action.
The outcome of this case could set an important precedent for how controversial digital music content is handled in India.
As the investigation continues, the controversy surrounding Badshah’s “Tateeree” shows how quickly a viral song can turn into a national debate. What do you think about the case?
