Georgia Voll has stunned the cricket world by grabbing the top spot in the ICC Women’s T20I batting rankings after only 12 matches. The 22 year old Australian opener smashed a maiden T20I century against West Indies last week and now sits above her teammate Beth Mooney. Yet Voll insists she still has plenty to prove.
Explosive Century Fuels Historic Rankings Jump
Voll lit up the third T20I against West Indies in St Vincent on March 23 2026. She blasted 101 off just 53 balls with nine fours and six sixes. That knock powered Australia to 211 for seven and helped secure a 3 0 series whitewash via the DLS method in a rain affected game.
The innings lifted her to a career best 815 rating points. She jumped eight places to overtake Mooney who had held the No.1 ranking for 26 straight months. This makes Voll the fastest player to reach the summit in nearly two decades since England star Charlotte Edwards did it in the early days of the format.
From Rugby Star To Cricket Sensation
Voll grew up in Toowoomba Queensland with a passion for rugby league. She represented Queensland in under 18 teams and dreamed of playing in the NRLW. Cricket was always there too but rugby felt like her main path until timing changed everything.
COVID disrupted her rugby plans in 2020. At the same time she broke into Queensland Fire at just 16 and helped them win a WNCL title the following year. She played early WBBL with Brisbane Heat before moving to Sydney Thunder where she built a solid record of over 1500 runs across 84 matches at a strike rate above 119.
Her multi sport background shows in her powerful striking and athletic fielding. Voll also played in the 2025 WPL with UP Warriorz scoring at a blistering rate including a near century. She is now set to join RCB for the next edition.
Humble Approach Despite Rapid Success
Voll refuses to call herself the world’s best batter. In her own words she sees the ranking as just numbers next to her name. With so few games played she knows opponents will soon work out her game and she wants to stay ahead.
“I haven’t played many games for Australia so I’m not sure how I’m up there to be honest,” she told reporters. “It’s a nice recognition but it’s not something I pay a lot of attention to. The main priority for me is to score runs for Australia and get our team off to a good start.”
There is always room to improve she adds. Voll talks about tinkering with her game and working on areas that need attention. This grounded mindset has won fans across the cricket community.
Here are some of her standout numbers so far in T20Is:
- Matches: 12
- Runs: 474
- Average: 39.50
- Strike rate: 156.44
- Highest score: 101
- Fours: 62
- Sixes: 10
In ODIs she has also shone with 461 runs in 10 games including a century and two fifties at an average over 57.
Stepping Up As Healy’s Long Term Successor
Australia needed someone to fill the big shoes left by Alyssa Healy at the top of the order. Voll has stepped in naturally since making her international debut around 15 months ago. She opened in T20Is and ODIs while also showing she can handle the pressure of Test cricket.
Healy’s retirement created opportunities and Voll has grabbed them with both hands. She joins an elite group as only the fourth Australian woman to score a T20I century alongside legends like Healy Meg Lanning and Beth Mooney.
Her aggressive style fits perfectly with Australia’s dominant white ball teams. Voll gives the side explosive starts that set up big totals. Teammates and coaches praise her work ethic and ability to learn quickly from every match.
World Cup Pressure Builds For Rising Star
The biggest test of Voll’s young career is coming fast. The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup starts in England and Wales on June 12 2026 and runs until July 5. Australia will head there as one of the favourites and Voll knows her role will be key.
She has already faced top teams like India and New Zealand in recent months. Those experiences have sharpened her game and built confidence. Voll wants to help Australia lift the trophy on English soil and cement her place among the greats.
Fans have reacted strongly on social media with many calling her rise one of the most exciting stories in women’s cricket right now. Her blend of power humility and potential has people talking about a long and successful international career ahead.
Voll’s journey shows what happens when talent meets the right opportunities at the right time. From juggling rugby and cricket as a teenager to topping world rankings before turning 23 she has come a long way in a short period. Her story reminds everyone that rankings are nice but the real focus stays on performing when the team needs it most.
