Vizrt, a leading provider of software-defined visual storytelling solutions, has announced that it is consolidating its Vizrt and NewTek businesses under the Vizrt brand. The move is in response to the converging broadcast and pro AV markets, and the changing needs of customers and end users.
Vizrt acquires NewTek in 2019
Vizrt acquired NewTek, a pioneer of IP-based video production, in 2019, with the aim of creating the largest company in the broadcast space that is dedicated to enabling IT-based video production. The two companies have since focused on their respective broadcast and pro AV markets under the Vizrt Group umbrella, offering products such as Vizrt’s graphics, video wall and virtual studio solutions, and NewTek’s TriCaster, 3Play and NDI technologies.
Vizrt and NewTek merge under Vizrt brand
But the markets of broadcast and pro AV are converging, and the needs of customers and end users are changing, according to Vizrt. The company said that broadcasters and content creators are facing major transitions, such as moving to IP-based infrastructure, monetising their content, capturing audience attention, producing content remotely, driving remote collaboration, moving to the cloud, focusing on sustainability, security and the skill gap. To address these challenges, Vizrt said it is fusing together the Vizrt and NewTek businesses under the Vizrt brand, a move that will bring together the respective customer service, support, university, R&D and product teams.
“From transitioning to IP-based infrastructure, monetisation, capturing audience attention, remotely producing content, driving remote collaboration, moving to the cloud, focusing on sustainability, security and the skill gap – we found our customers across both sides of the portfolio are evolving and often need to do more with less. Now, Vizrt is a one-stop shop to support it all,” said Michael Hallén, CEO of Vizrt.
Vizrt offers a unified ecosystem of products
Through the unified ecosystem of products, all partners gain access to the entire portfolio to support them in offering new solutions and growing their businesses, said Vizrt. The company added that it intends to extend its product portfolio and launch a new entry-level video production system for streamers and content creators, and new cloud live production systems. Vizrt’s ambition is to support anyone creating content with the best storytelling solutions and a scalable portfolio of products, whether an individual, an educational institution, a corporate enterprise or a world-class broadcaster.
Vizrt also said that it is enhancing its training platform to cover the unified portfolio. The company has invested in integrating teams to improve customer service, product development and R&D across the brands. The company now has 150 customer service staff and over 250 engineers globally.
NDI continues as a standalone brand within Vizrt Group
NDI technology will continue as a standalone brand within Vizrt Group. NDI is a royalty-free standard that enables video-compatible products to communicate, deliver and receive broadcast-quality video over IP networks. NDI has been widely adopted by broadcasters and content creators around the world.
The company remains privately held by Nordic Capital, with no leadership changes announced. The merger follows consolidation across the industry as broadcast tech players look for scale and broader portfolios.
