Russian Advances and Control of Settlements

Russian forces have taken control of two settlements in the Kharkiv region and one in the Zaporizhia region. The Defense Ministry reports that Hlyboke and Lukyantsi in the northeastern Kharkiv region, as well as Robotyne in the southern Zaporizhia region, are now under Russian control.

Putin’s Visit to China and Defense Spending

Russian President Vladimir Putin visited China, where he backed China’s peace proposals for Ukraine. He emphasized that Russian forces are advancing in all directions in Ukraine. Additionally, Russia’s defense and security spending is expected to exceed 8.7% of GDP in 2024.

The Human Toll

The conflict has not only caused military and territorial shifts but also tragic loss. At least 16 Sri Lankan citizens have been killed while fighting as mercenaries in the Ukrainian war, mostly on the Russian side.

As the situation remains fluid, civilians continue to bear the brunt of the conflict. The international community closely watches developments, hoping for a peaceful resolution to this devastating war.
