The Clayton County Water Authority (CCWA) has received several industry awards for its outstanding performance in water production, wastewater treatment, distribution, collection, and consumer confidence. The awards were presented by the Georgia Association of Water Professionals (GAWP) at a recent conference in Morrow, Georgia.
CCWA Earns Gold and Platinum Awards for Water and Wastewater Systems
CCWA operates four water production plants, four water reclamation facilities, and a network of water and sewer lines that serve more than 280,000 customers in Clayton County. The utility has demonstrated its commitment to providing quality water and services to its community by achieving high standards of excellence in its operations.
CCWA’s W.B. Casey Water Reclamation Central Lab earned its fourth consecutive Quality Assurance Gold Award, scoring 95.0 or higher on an inspection that evaluates the quality of laboratory testing and analysis. The lab serves the largest municipal wastewater system in Georgia, treating more than 20 million gallons per day (MGD).
CCWA’s Distribution Maintenance staff earned their fifth Platinum Distribution System Award, scoring 95 or higher for five consecutive years on an inspection that assesses the maintenance of the water lines that deliver potable water from the plants to the customers. CCWA maintains approximately 1,500 miles of water lines throughout Clayton County.
CCWA’s Conveyance Maintenance staff earned their ninth Collection System Platinum Award, scoring 95 or higher for five consecutive years on an inspection that evaluates the maintenance of the sewer lines that collect sewage from the customers and transport it to the facilities. CCWA maintains approximately 1,300 miles of sewer lines throughout Clayton County.
CCWA Wins Best Consumer Confidence Report Award for Large Surface Water Systems
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires all drinking water systems to provide an annual consumer confidence report (CCR) to their customers. The CCR contains data confirming that the utility’s drinking water met or exceeded all standards set by the federal and state governments. The CCR also provides information on the source, treatment, and quality of the water, as well as tips on water conservation and protection.
CCWA’s CCR is a collaborative effort between its Water Quality Lab and Communications & Community Relations staff. The report serves as a report card on the utility’s drinking water for the previous calendar year. The CCR is available online, by mail, and at various locations throughout the county.
CCWA won the Best Consumer Confidence Report Award for Large Surface Water Systems, beating out other utilities that serve more than 50,000 customers and use surface water as their primary source. This is the third time CCWA has won this award, having previously won it in 2020 and 2021.
