WEX appoints new CTO and adds former Optum executive to its board

WEX, a leading provider of payment solutions and business services, announced on Wednesday that it has named Rajeev Singh as its new chief technology officer (CTO) and added Dirk McMahon to its board of directors. Both Singh and McMahon have extensive experience in the healthcare and technology sectors, which are key areas of focus for WEX.

Rajeev Singh: a seasoned leader in digital transformation

Singh will join WEX on January 3, 2023, and will be responsible for leading the company’s global technology strategy, innovation, and delivery. He will report directly to Melissa Smith, the chair and CEO of WEX.

Singh has over 25 years of experience in leading digital transformation, product development, and engineering teams at various companies, including Amazon, Microsoft, and Expedia. Most recently, he was the CTO of Accolade, a personalized health and benefits platform, where he helped scale the company’s cloud-based technology platform and drive its growth and profitability.

“Rajeev is a proven leader with a track record of delivering innovative and scalable technology solutions that create value for customers and stakeholders,” Smith said in a press release. “He brings a wealth of expertise and insights that will help us accelerate our digital transformation and enhance our position as a global leader in payments and business services.”

Singh said he was excited to join WEX and contribute to its vision of simplifying complex payment systems and enabling businesses to operate more efficiently and effectively.

Dirk McMahon: a veteran in healthcare and operations

McMahon will join WEX’s board of directors on January 1, 2023, and will serve on the audit committee and the nominating and governance committee. He will bring his extensive experience in healthcare, operations, and strategy to WEX, which serves over 15 million healthcare consumers and processes over $1.5 billion in healthcare payments annually.

McMahon is currently the president and chief operating officer of UnitedHealth Group, the largest health insurance and healthcare services company in the United States. He oversees the company’s enterprise-wide operations, including technology, data and analytics, business processes, and customer service. He also leads the company’s strategic planning and execution, as well as its mergers and acquisitions.

Prior to his current role, McMahon was the CEO of Optum, a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group that provides technology and related services, pharmacy care services, and direct healthcare services. Under his leadership, Optum grew its revenues to over $100 billion and became one of the largest and most diversified healthcare companies in the world.
