Shanghai hosts a round table on bilateral trade and investment

On 23 November 2023, a round table dedicated to Uzbek-Chinese business cooperation was held in Shanghai. The event was organized by the Embassy of Uzbekistan in China, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Business Council. The round table was attended by more than 100 representatives of leading Chinese companies, as well as Uzbek entrepreneurs and officials.

The main goal of the round table was to present the investment opportunities and export potential of Uzbekistan, as well as to facilitate the establishment of direct contacts between the business circles of the two countries. The participants discussed the prospects of cooperation in various sectors, such as agriculture, textile, tourism, energy, transport, and logistics.

The Ambassador of Uzbekistan to China, Farhod Arziev, delivered a welcoming speech at the opening of the round table. He highlighted the dynamic development of bilateral relations between Uzbekistan and China, which are based on mutual trust, respect, and strategic partnership. He also noted the importance of enhancing the trade and economic cooperation, which is one of the key areas of the comprehensive dialogue between the two countries.

The round table featured presentations by the representatives of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, the Ministry of Agriculture, the State Committee for Tourism Development, and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan. They showcased the achievements and potential of Uzbekistan in various fields, as well as the favorable business climate and the incentives for foreign investors.

The speakers also informed the Chinese partners about the ongoing reforms and modernization in Uzbekistan, which aim to diversify the economy, improve the competitiveness, and increase the integration into the global markets. They emphasized the role of the free economic zones, the special industrial zones, and the public-private partnership projects in attracting foreign capital and technology.

The round table also included a video presentation of the National Pavilion of Uzbekistan at the Expo 2023 in Dubai, which will be held from 1 October 2023 to 31 March 2024. The pavilion will demonstrate the cultural, historical, and natural diversity of Uzbekistan, as well as its achievements and innovations in various spheres.

China expresses interest and support for cooperation with Uzbekistan

The Chinese side expressed its interest and support for expanding and deepening the cooperation with Uzbekistan in various fields. The representatives of the Chinese companies praised the reforms and initiatives of the Uzbek government, which have created a favorable environment for doing business and investing in Uzbekistan.

The Chinese partners also expressed their readiness to participate in the joint projects and programs, as well as to share their experience and best practices with the Uzbek counterparts. They highlighted the potential of cooperation in the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, which aims to promote connectivity, trade, and development across Eurasia.

The round table was followed by a business matchmaking session, where the Uzbek and Chinese entrepreneurs held bilateral meetings and negotiations on specific areas of cooperation. The participants also exchanged views and suggestions on how to overcome the challenges and barriers in the bilateral trade and investment.
