Woman critically injured after stabbing at Chicago laundromat

A woman is fighting for her life after she was stabbed multiple times by an unknown assailant at a laundromat in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood. The incident occurred on Sunday evening and sparked a manhunt for the suspect.

What happened at the laundromat?

According to the Chicago Police Department, the 25-year-old woman was inside the Bubbleland laundromat in the 2200 block of North Milwaukee Avenue around 6 p.m. when a man entered the business and attacked her with a knife. He stabbed her in the chest, the right leg and the left leg before fleeing southbound on Milwaukee Avenue.

The woman was rushed to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition. No one else was injured in the attack.

The motive for the stabbing is unclear and the police have not released any description of the suspect. Area Five detectives are investigating the case and are asking anyone with information to contact them.

How did the witnesses react?

The stabbing shocked the customers and employees of the laundromat, who described the scene as chaotic and terrifying. One witness, who did not want to be identified, told CBS Chicago that he saw the suspect running away from the laundromat with a knife in his hand.

“He was running fast. He had a knife. He had blood on his hand,” the witness said.

Another witness, who also wished to remain anonymous, said that he heard screams and saw the woman lying on the floor bleeding.

“She was screaming for help. She was bleeding a lot. It was scary,” he said.

He added that he tried to help the woman by applying pressure to her wounds until the paramedics arrived.

What is the situation of crime in Logan Square?

Logan Square is a diverse and vibrant neighborhood in Chicago’s Northwest Side, known for its historic boulevards, cultural events and nightlife. However, it has also seen an increase in crime in recent years, especially violent crimes such as shootings and stabbings.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Logan Square recorded 15 homicides, 81 shootings and 112 robberies in 2022, up from 10 homicides, 55 shootings and 95 robberies in 2021. The neighborhood also ranked fourth among Chicago’s 77 community areas for aggravated battery incidents in 2022, with 261 cases reported.

Some residents have expressed concern over the lack of police presence and resources in Logan Square, while others have called for more community involvement and prevention programs to address the root causes of crime.
