Two 19-year-old brothers from Lawrenceville, Georgia, were found dead atop Bell Mountain, leaving their family devastated and desperate for answers.
A Tragic Discovery
Hikers stumbled upon the bodies of Qaadir Malik Lewis and Naazir Rahim Lewis on March 8, contacting local authorities around 11:05 a.m., according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). The Towns County Sheriff’s Office quickly brought in the GBI for support. Both brothers had gunshot wounds. Officials suggested a possible murder-suicide — though autopsies are still pending, and investigations remain active.
The twins’ family, blindsided by the tragedy, believed the boys were visiting friends in Boston at the time. Their plane tickets were found untouched in their wallets.
From Boston Plans to a Georgia Mountain
Qaadir and Naazir were supposed to board a 7 a.m. flight to Boston on March 7. Somehow, they ended up nearly 90 miles away in the mountains of Hiawassee, Georgia. The sudden change in their plans remains a mystery.
“We want answers, we want to know exactly what happened to the twins,” their aunt, Samira Brawner, told WXIA.
Their uncle, Rahim Brawner, echoed the disbelief. “They’re like inseparable. I couldn’t imagine them hurting each other because I’ve never seen them get into a fistfight before.”
Unanswered Questions and Family Heartbreak
The Lewis brothers were described as close, loving, and protective of each other. The family insists the idea of one harming the other feels impossible.
Authorities continue to investigate, but key questions remain:
- Why did the twins miss their flight?
- How did they end up on Bell Mountain?
- What happened in the 24 hours between the missed flight and their deaths?
Community Support and Grief
A GoFundMe was launched to support the family with funeral expenses. The fundraiser paints a picture of two vibrant, loving young men who were taken too soon.
As the investigation unfolds, the family clings to hope for clarity. Their message is clear: they won’t stop seeking answers until they know what really happened to Qaadir and Naazir.
