Victim Found with Multiple Lacerations
Savannah Police Department (SPD) is investigating a possible stabbing incident that occurred on Collins Street on Monday morning. According to SPD, officers responded to a report of a cutting at the 200 block of Collins Street around 9:30 a.m. and found a male victim with multiple lacerations. He was transported to a hospital for treatment of his injuries, which are not considered life-threatening.
SPD spokesperson Bianca Johnson said the victim was not cooperative with the investigation and did not provide any information about the suspect or the motive. She said the incident is still under investigation and no arrests have been made.
Crime Scene Secured and Evidence Collected
SPD secured the crime scene and collected evidence, including a knife that was found near the victim. Johnson said it is not clear if the knife was used in the attack or if it belonged to the victim or the suspect. She said SPD is working to identify and locate the suspect, who is believed to have fled the scene on foot.
Johnson said SPD is asking anyone with information about the incident or the suspect to contact them at (912) 525-3124 or CrimeStoppers at (912) 234-2020. Tipsters can remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
Collins Street Residents Concerned About Safety
The possible stabbing incident has raised concerns among some residents of Collins Street, who said they have witnessed an increase in crime and violence in their neighborhood. One resident, who did not want to be identified, said he heard screams and saw blood on the sidewalk outside his home.
“I’m scared for my safety and my family’s safety,” he said. “This is not the first time something like this has happened here. There are always fights and shootings and drugs. I don’t feel safe living here anymore.”
Another resident, who also wished to remain anonymous, said she saw the victim lying on the ground and called 911. She said she did not know the victim or the suspect, but she recognized them as frequent visitors of the area.
“They are always hanging around here, causing trouble,” she said. “They don’t live here, they don’t belong here. They need to go somewhere else and leave us alone.”
She said she hopes SPD will increase patrols and enforcement in the area to prevent further incidents.
SPD Encourages Community Involvement
Johnson said SPD is aware of the concerns of Collins Street residents and is committed to ensuring their safety and security. She said SPD has increased its presence and visibility in the area and is conducting proactive patrols and traffic stops.
She also encouraged residents to get involved in their community and report any suspicious or criminal activity to SPD.
“We need the community’s help to solve these crimes and prevent them from happening,” she said. “We can’t do it alone. We need their eyes and ears and their cooperation. We want them to be our partners in fighting crime.”
She said residents can also join or form neighborhood watch groups, attend community meetings, and participate in crime prevention programs offered by SPD.
“We want to build trust and relationships with our residents,” she said. “We want them to know that we are here for them and we care about them.”
