Leven Funeral Directors Celebrates Third Business Award in a Row

A local funeral business in Leven, Fife, has been recognised for its excellence and customer satisfaction for the third consecutive year. Leven Funeral Directors, a family-run firm that has been serving the community since 1977, has won the Funeral Directors of the Year Award for Fife at the Scottish Enterprise Awards 2023.

The award, which is based on customer feedback, industry reputation, and innovation, honours the best businesses in Scotland across various sectors. Leven Funeral Directors is the only funeral business in Fife to have won the award three times in a row, demonstrating its consistent quality and professionalism.

A Family Legacy of Compassion and Care

Leven Funeral Directors was founded by John and Margaret Leven, who started the business from their home in 1977. They were later joined by their son David, who became a qualified funeral director in 1985. David took over the business in 2000, after his father passed away, and has continued to uphold the high standards and values that his parents instilled.

David said: “I am very proud of what my parents achieved and I am honoured to carry on their legacy. They taught me everything I know about this profession and how to treat people with respect and dignity. They also taught me the importance of innovation and adapting to the changing needs and preferences of our customers.”

Leven Funeral Directors was the first funeral business in Leven to have a purpose-built funeral home, which opened in 1985. The funeral home features a spacious chapel of rest, a private arrangement room, and a modern fleet of vehicles. The business also offers a range of personalised services, such as pre-paid funeral plans, floral tributes, catering, and memorials.

A Dedicated and Experienced Team

Leven Funeral Directors has a team of six staff members, who are all trained and qualified to provide the best possible service to the families they serve. The team includes David’s wife, Susan, who is the office manager, and their daughter, Amy, who is a funeral arranger. The other staff members are funeral directors John and Mark, funeral service operative James, and receptionist Carol.

David said: “We are a close-knit team and we work well together. We are all passionate about our work and we always strive to exceed the expectations of our customers. We are also very grateful for the support and feedback we receive from the community, which motivates us to keep improving our service.”

The team at Leven Funeral Directors is also committed to giving back to the community, by supporting various local charities and causes. For example, the business sponsors the Leven Rose Queen Festival, which is an annual event that celebrates the local children and raises money for local schools and organisations. The business also supports the Leven Food Bank, the Leven Rotary Club, and the Leven Thistle Golf Club.

A Vision for the Future

Leven Funeral Directors is not resting on its laurels, despite its impressive achievements and awards. The business is always looking for new ways to enhance its service and meet the diverse and evolving needs of its customers. For instance, the business is planning to introduce a new online tribute service, which will allow customers to create and share personalised memorial pages for their loved ones.

David said: “We are always looking for new ideas and opportunities to grow and develop our business. We want to offer our customers more choice and flexibility, and to make the funeral planning process as easy and stress-free as possible. We also want to keep up with the latest trends and technologies, and to offer our customers the best value for money.”

David also expressed his gratitude and appreciation to his customers, his staff, and the award organisers. He said: “We are delighted and honoured to win this award for the third time in a row. It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team, and the trust and loyalty of our customers. We would like to thank everyone who voted for us, and the Scottish Enterprise Awards for recognising our business. We will continue to do our best to serve our community and to provide a compassionate and professional service to the families who entrust us with their loved ones.”
