A 20-year-old Georgia man was arrested after leading police on a high-speed chase Saturday night. Tanjinder Singh Mahil, of Dacula, Georgia, was detained after a pursuit on I-65 and Highway 67 South, with authorities discovering drugs in his vehicle.
The pursuit began at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Saturday when Priceville Police attempted to stop Mahil, who was driving a Mercedes-Benz S550. The vehicle had been flagged for several traffic violations and was seen speeding northbound on I-65 near mile marker 333. As the officers tried to make the stop, Mahil fled the scene, taking the exit onto Highway 67 South.
The chase intensified as Morgan County Sheriff’s Office joined the pursuit. Police followed the vehicle until it was eventually stopped near Cove Creek Drive. Upon arresting Mahil, authorities discovered a stash of THC concentrates in edible form, along with drug paraphernalia inside the car.
Charges Filed Against Mahil
Mahil now faces multiple serious charges. He was charged with felony fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement, reckless driving, and unlawful possession of a controlled substance. Additionally, he was cited for possessing drug paraphernalia and other traffic violations.
Following his arrest, Mahil was booked into the Morgan County Jail. His bond has been set at $17,500.
Despite his age, Mahil now finds himself facing significant legal consequences. His arrest highlights the ongoing issue of reckless driving and the dangers posed by individuals attempting to flee from authorities. The swift response of Priceville Police and the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office ensured that the pursuit ended safely, without any injuries to the public or officers.
In recent months, incidents like this one have raised questions about the increasing number of high-speed chases and their impact on public safety. While fleeing suspects often try to evade capture, law enforcement agencies continue to adapt and work together to stop dangerous drivers before they can cause harm.
This incident is still under investigation, and authorities are continuing to review the evidence seized from the vehicle during the arrest.
