Goran was also known for his friendly and gentle personality. He loved to play fetch with children and other animals at the local park. He was always ready to greet anyone who came to visit him at the police station.

Goran participated in many successful operations during his career. He helped catch several criminals, including a bank robber, a drug dealer, and a kidnapper. He also assisted in rescuing people and animals from dangerous situations, such as fires, floods, and car accidents.

Goran’s retirement ceremony

On January 1st, 2023, Goran retired from his duty as a K-9 officer. His retirement ceremony was held at the Clayton County Police Department headquarters. Officer Smith gave a heartfelt speech about his bond with Goran and thanked him for his service.

“I’m so proud of you, buddy,” Smith said. “You have been more than just a dog to me. You have been my friend, my family. You have saved my life more than once. You have made me laugh when I was sad. You have comforted me when I was stressed. You have been there for me through thick and thin.”

Smith also presented Goran with a medal of honor from the Clayton County Police Department for his outstanding performance and dedication.

“Goran is not just a dog,” Smith said. “He is a hero.”

The ceremony was attended by many colleagues from the department, as well as some of Goran’s friends from the park and other places. They all expressed their admiration and gratitude for Goran’s service.

“Goran is an amazing dog,” said Chief James Jones of the Clayton County Police Department. “He has done so much for our community and our department. He has shown us what it means to be loyal, brave, and compassionate.”

Jones also praised Officer Smith for being an exemplary handler who treated Goran with respect and care.

“Officer Smith is one of our best officers,” Jones said. “He has trained Goran well and loved him dearly. He has given him everything he needed to be happy and healthy.”

Jones also announced that another German shepherd named Rex will join the K-9 unit soon to replace Goran.

“Rex is just like Goran,” Jones said. “He is smart, strong, friendly, and eager to learn.”

A legacy that will live on

Goran’s retirement marks the end of an era for the Clayton County Police Department’s K-9 unit. The unit currently consists of six German shepherds: Rex (the newest member), Rocky (the oldest member), Max (the leader), Luna (the medic), Bella (the rookie), and Milo (the backup).

The unit is led by Sergeant James Brown, who oversees their training and operations.

“We are very sad to see Goran go,” Brown said. “He has been an integral part of our team for so long.”

Brown also thanked Officer Smith for being an outstanding handler who made a positive impact on everyone he met.

“Officer Smith is one of our most respected officers,” Brown said. “He has always been professional, courteous, helpful, and kind.”

Brown also expressed his confidence that Rex will continue Goran’s legacy as a successful K-9 officer.

“Rex is ready to take on this challenge,” Brown said. “He has learned everything he needs to know from us.”

Brown also invited anyone who wants to support or adopt Rex or any other K-9 officer in need of a home or family to contact them through their website or social media accounts.

“We are always looking for new homes or families for our K-9 officers,” Brown said. “They deserve nothing but love and happiness.”

Goran’s retirement marks not only the end of an era but also the beginning of a new chapter in his life. He will now enjoy spending more time with his family at home, playing with other dogs at the park, or relaxing on his favorite couch.
