A 75-year-old building in downtown Flowery Branch is set to take on a new life as a microbrewery, thanks to the vision of two lifelong friends. But while they’re eager to serve craft beer, preserving the site’s rich history is just as important to them.
Brewing Up a Dream in Flowery Branch
Josh Roberts and Adam Fiddler, best friends since childhood, have always shared a passion for craft beer. Now, they’re turning that passion into reality with their plan to open ‘Bangarang Brews’ in the old Hamilton Cabinet Shop. The pair see this as more than just a business venture—it’s a tribute to their hometown.
“We love this place. We grew up here. We want to bring something exciting to the community while respecting what’s already here,” said Roberts.
The shop, which has stood for decades, will be carefully restored rather than completely overhauled. Roberts and Fiddler believe in blending old and new, keeping original structural elements intact while adding a modern brewpub feel.
History Meets Hops
Flowery Branch has seen its share of change over the years, with new developments popping up alongside long-standing landmarks. The Hamilton Cabinet Shop, once a thriving woodworking business, is one of those historic sites.
Rather than gutting the space, the duo wants to integrate elements of the shop’s past into the design. Vintage wood from the original interior will be repurposed for the bar and tables, while some old machinery may be displayed as decor.
“We’re not just slapping a brewery in here. We want to tell a story—one pint at a time,” said Fiddler.
What’s on Tap for the Brewery?
While the brewery is still in its early planning stages, Roberts and Fiddler already have a few ideas brewing:
- A lineup of locally inspired craft beers, including an ale named after Flowery Branch’s rich railway history.
- A casual, welcoming atmosphere with live music and food truck partnerships.
- A focus on sustainability by sourcing ingredients from local farms whenever possible.
The pair are also considering community engagement events like homebrewing workshops and beer education nights to make ‘Bangarang Brews’ a gathering place, not just a bar.
A Growing Trend in Small Towns
The craft beer industry continues to expand, with small towns across the country embracing independent breweries as economic and social hubs. Studies show that microbreweries contribute significantly to local economies, often revitalizing historic buildings in the process.
For Flowery Branch, a town already undergoing steady growth, this project could mark another step in its evolution while maintaining its small-town charm.
“There’s a fine balance between growth and keeping your roots,” said Roberts. “We think Bangarang Brews can do both.”
