CCPS Superintendent congratulates the graduates
Dr. Morcease J. Beasley, the superintendent of CCPS, delivered the opening remarks and congratulated the graduates for their perseverance and resilience in overcoming the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. He also encouraged them to pursue their dreams and goals with passion and purpose.
“You have demonstrated that you are capable of achieving anything you set your mind to,” Dr. Beasley said. “You have shown that you are not defined by your circumstances, but by your choices and actions.”
Dr. Beasley also thanked the parents, guardians, teachers, counselors, principals, and other staff members who supported the graduates throughout their educational journey. He acknowledged their role in providing guidance, encouragement, and inspiration to the students.
Graduates share their reflections and aspirations
The virtual ceremony also featured speeches from two graduates who shared their reflections and aspirations. Jasmine Jones, a graduate of Elite Scholars Academy, spoke about the importance of gratitude and optimism. She expressed her appreciation for the opportunities and experiences that CCPS provided her, and said that she looked forward to attending Georgia State University and majoring in nursing.
“I am grateful for the teachers who pushed me to do my best, the counselors who helped me plan my future, and the friends who made me laugh and cry,” Jones said. “I am optimistic about the future, because I know that I have the skills and knowledge to succeed in whatever I choose to do.”
Darius Johnson, a graduate of Lovejoy High School, talked about the value of hard work and determination. He shared his story of overcoming academic and personal struggles, and said that he was proud of his accomplishments and growth. He also announced that he had enlisted in the U.S. Army and hoped to serve his country and community.
“I learned that nothing is impossible if you work hard and never give up,” Johnson said. “I faced many obstacles and challenges, but I did not let them stop me from reaching my goals. I am proud of myself and my fellow graduates, because we did not give up on ourselves or our dreams.”
Graduates receive their diplomas and celebrate their success
The virtual ceremony concluded with the presentation of diplomas to the graduates by their respective principals. The names and photos of the graduates were displayed on the screen, along with their high school logos and colors. The graduates were also invited to turn their tassels from right to left, symbolizing their transition from students to alumni.
The graduates and their families celebrated their success with cheers, applause, and confetti. Many of them also posted photos and videos on social media using the hashtag #CCPSWinterGrad2024. The virtual ceremony was viewed by more than 2,000 people on YouTube, and received positive feedback and congratulations from the CCPS community and beyond.
