Vinci partners with Paris 2024 to support sustainable Olympics

Vinci becomes an official supporter of the Olympic and Paralympic Games

French construction group Vinci announced on Wednesday that it has signed a partnership agreement with the Paris Organising Committee for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games as an “Official Supporter”. This means that Vinci will provide its expertise and know-how in designing, financing, building and operating infrastructure and facilities for the mega sporting event. Vinci will also contribute to the legacy of the Games by ensuring that the venues are environmentally friendly, accessible and adaptable for future use.

Vinci said in a statement that it “closely identifies with the pledge made by Paris 2024 to organise the games in a more responsible way, keeping the carbon emissions generated by the event to less than half of those from previous games while creating job opportunities and celebrating the positive impact sport can have on society”.

Vinci’s involvement in the Olympic projects

Vinci has been involved in several projects related to the preparation of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris. Some of these include:

  • The renovation of the Stade de France, the main stadium for the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as athletics and football events. Vinci is also responsible for the operation and maintenance of the stadium until 2025.
  • The construction of the Olympic and Paralympic Village, which will accommodate up to 17,000 athletes and officials during the Games. The village will be located in Seine-Saint-Denis, a suburban area north-east of Paris, and will consist of 51 buildings with a total surface area of 250,000 square meters. After the Games, the village will be transformed into a new eco-friendly neighborhood with 2,200 housing units, shops, offices, schools and public facilities.
  • The development of the Grand Paris Express, a massive project to expand and modernize the public transport network in the Greater Paris area. Vinci is involved in several sections of the project, such as the construction of new metro lines, stations and tunnels. The Grand Paris Express will improve the mobility and accessibility of millions of people, especially those living in the outskirts of Paris, and will facilitate the transport of spectators and participants during the Games.
  • The delivery of sustainable solutions for the Olympic venues, such as energy efficiency, renewable energy, water management, waste management and biodiversity protection. Vinci will also provide services such as security, cleaning, catering and hospitality for some of the venues.
