UGA Sees Record Applications, Lower Acceptance Rate for Class of 2029

The University of Georgia has unveiled its latest freshman admission statistics — and the numbers show a sharp rise in competition for the Class of 2029.

A Surge in Applications, A Tighter Acceptance Rate

UGA received a staggering 47,860 applications for the Class of 2029, marking a 12% increase from the previous year. Despite this surge, only 15,800 students secured admission — translating to an acceptance rate of just 32.9%. That’s a noticeable drop, reflecting the growing demand for a spot at one of Georgia’s flagship institutions.

This rise in applicants isn’t surprising. UGA continues to climb in national rankings, drawing more attention from out-of-state and international students. But with higher demand comes stiffer competition, and the numbers tell that story loud and clear.

Academics Reach New Heights

It wasn’t just the application pool that grew — the academic credentials of admitted students reached new highs too.

  • GPA: The middle 50% of admitted students boasted core GPAs between 4.08 and 4.35, with an impressive average of 4.22.
  • Standardized Tests: SAT scores ranged from 1300 to 1470, while ACT scores fell between 30 and 34.
  • Advanced Courses: The average student tackled over 11 advanced placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), or dual enrollment courses — with the middle 50% completing between 8 and 11.

These numbers paint a clear picture: getting into UGA is tougher than ever, and students are pushing harder to stand out.

A Class That Reflects the Nation — and Georgia

UGA’s incoming class isn’t just academically impressive — it’s also geographically diverse.

  • All 50 states and Washington, D.C. are represented.
  • Students hail from 154 Georgia counties and 3,021 high schools.
  • Interestingly, 24 admitted students share the name Georgia — a fun nod to their future home.

This widespread representation highlights UGA’s growing appeal far beyond its home state.

Beyond the Classroom: A Well-Rounded Class

Numbers only tell part of the story. The Class of 2029 also shines in extracurricular involvement.

  • 16,730 volunteer experiences
  • 23,110 leadership roles
  • 10,140 athletic teams
  • 9,380 jobs held
  • 6,180 students involved in creative arts

From athletes to artists, entrepreneurs to student leaders — this class is bringing more than just strong GPAs to campus.

What Are They Studying?

UGA’s newest Bulldogs are eyeing a range of majors, but five fields stood out as the most popular:

Biology

Intended Finance

Business

Psychology

Intended Mechanical Engineering

The blend of STEM and business majors mirrors national trends, with psychology remaining a consistent favorite.
