The Tbilisi government recently held a meeting to discuss significant updates and projects aimed at improving the city’s infrastructure and services. Mayor Kakha Kaladze addressed the citizens via a live broadcast, outlining various initiatives, including kindergarten renovations, water supply improvements, road infrastructure upgrades, and park rehabilitations. These projects, funded by substantial investments, are set to enhance the quality of life for Tbilisi residents. The meeting also included a tribute to the late journalist Giorgi Koberidze, acknowledging his contributions to covering Tbilisi’s developments.
Major Renovations and Infrastructure Projects
The Tbilisi government is investing heavily in renovating kindergartens across the city. Twelve buildings are undergoing extensive updates to their interiors, facades, and outdoor areas. Additionally, three kindergartens are improving their yard infrastructure, and eleven are repairing roofs. These renovations, costing over 8 million GEL, include upgrades to educational spaces, playgrounds, kitchens, and storage. Another 1 million GEL is allocated for new toys and educational materials. Three new and two renovated kindergartens will open this year, with the new school year starting on September 16.
In the Nadzaladevi district, a new water supply network on David Ioseliani Street has been completed, benefiting 270 families who previously lacked reliable water access. The project, which included 2,400 meters of new network, cost approximately 2 million GEL. This initiative is part of the city’s broader efforts to improve essential services for its residents.
The Mtatsminda district is upgrading road infrastructure in the Kvinitadze Street refugee settlement. The project involves laying 7,000 square meters of two-layer asphalt and 2,500 meters of curbing. The water network on the street has already been renewed, benefiting about 100 families. These infrastructure improvements are crucial for enhancing the living conditions in the area.
Enhancing Recreational Spaces
The Saburtalo district is renovating a park adjacent to the “Khutkunchula” kindergarten, covering 7,000 square meters. The project includes new park equipment, a children’s play area, lighting, and irrigation, costing around 1 million GEL. This initiative aims to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for children and families in the community.
In the Gldani district, the Avchala Park on Aleksandre Managadze Street is undergoing revitalization. The project plans to renew the area, add children’s play zones, and install lighting and irrigation systems. The budget for this project is approximately 400,000 GEL. These efforts are part of the city’s commitment to enhancing public spaces and promoting outdoor activities.
The government is also addressing long-standing debts of apartment owners’ cooperatives. These debts will be written off, allowing the cooperatives to participate in the “Promotion of Development of Apartment Owners’ Cooperatives” (BMA) program. This program supports building renovations, improving the living conditions for many residents.
Tribute to Giorgi Koberidze
The meeting concluded with a heartfelt tribute to Giorgi Koberidze, a respected journalist from Public Broadcasting who recently passed away. Koberidze was known for his dedicated coverage of Tbilisi’s projects and developments. His contributions were acknowledged with deep sorrow, and condolences were extended to his family.
