What is Special Olympics?

Special Olympics is a global movement that provides opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities to participate in sports and physical activities. South Coast Region Hosts Special Olympics Competition

On Saturday, November 18, 2023, the South Coast region of New South Wales hosted a Special Olympics competition at the Shoalhaven Indoor Sports Centre in Nowra. The event was organised by the South Coast Special Olympics Club, which has been operating since 1986 and has about 80 members. The club offers training and competitions in various sports, such as athletics, basketball, bocce, bowling, golf, gymnastics, soccer, swimming, and tennis.

The competition featured more than 100 athletes from the South Coast, Illawarra, and Southern Highlands regions, competing in basketball, bocce, and bowling. The athletes were supported by their coaches, volunteers, family members, and friends, who cheered them on and celebrated their achievements. The event also included a barbecue lunch, a raffle, and a presentation ceremony.
