Chipley’s Ryleigh Kunde: A Scholar Athlete with a Drive for Excellence

Ryleigh Kunde is not just a talented volleyball player, but also a dedicated student who excels in both academics and athletics. She is this week’s Scholar Athlete of the Week sponsored by Perry and Young P.A.

A Passion for Volleyball

Kunde started playing volleyball in the sixth grade as a setter, but switched to defense when she joined the varsity team as a sophomore. Since then, she has been the libero, the defensive specialist who wears a different colored jersey and can substitute for any player in the back row.

“I love being the libero because I get to be involved in every play and I get to be the leader on the court,” Kunde said.

She has proven to be a valuable asset for the Chipley Tigers, who are having a successful season under head coach Wayne Risinger. Kunde leads the team in digs, serves, and serve receive, and is also one of the captains.

“Ryleigh is the perfect example of what I look for in an athlete. She has speed, drive, determination, and a great attitude. She is always encouraging her teammates and giving her best effort,” Risinger said.

A Commitment to Academics

Kunde is not only a star on the court, but also in the classroom. She currently has a 3.9 GPA and takes honors and dual enrollment courses. She plans to major in nursing and pursue a career as a nurse practitioner.

“Discipline in the classroom and discipline on the court can take you a long way, and I think I’ve proven that I can do both and succeed,” Kunde said.

She credits her parents, teachers, and coaches for supporting her and pushing her to achieve her goals. She also balances her time between schoolwork, volleyball, church activities, and community service.

“I try to stay organized and prioritize what’s important. I also try to have fun and enjoy every moment,” Kunde said.

A Dream to Play College Volleyball

Kunde’s dream is to play volleyball at the collegiate level, and she is working hard to make it happen. She plays club volleyball in the off-season and attends camps and showcases to improve her skills and get exposure.

“I love volleyball so much and I want to continue playing as long as I can. It’s been my goal since I started playing,” Kunde said.

She has received interest from several colleges, but has not made a final decision yet. She hopes to find a school that offers both a quality education and a competitive volleyball program.

“I’m looking for a place where I can grow as a person, as a student, and as an athlete. I want to challenge myself and reach my full potential,” Kunde said.

Ryleigh Kunde is an exemplary scholar athlete who strives for excellence in everything she does. She is an inspiration to her peers, her coaches, and her community.
