Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Bangla’s Dual Crown Did Not Survive

Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Bangla closed its 2024 season on 2 March 2025 with two champions, not one. Deyashini Roy took the senior title. Atanu Mishra took the junior title, after a nine-month run that Zee5 dates from 2 June 2024.

The split looked like a reset. The next edition, which ended on 28 June 2026, put a single name, Ayush Gupta, back on the cup. That is how this show has worked for most of its 22 seasons: it splits the field, prints extra trophies, then folds them again.

Two Trophies on One Sunday Night

Actor Abir Chatterjee, host since 2020, ran a finale built for two age tracks. Ten singers reached the last round, six seniors and four juniors, on a 90-minute Zee Bangla slot directed, as usual, by Avijit Sen. Adnan Sami and veteran singer Haimanti Shukla came as guests. The eight judges from the season sat in full.

Among the seniors, Deyashini Roy finished first. Mayuri Darani and Sai Shastri shared first runner-up. Satyajit Deb Roy took third. Aratrika, a viewers’ favourite who missed the top three, received the Kalika Prasad award. Among the juniors, Atanu Mishra won, Aishi Chakraborty placed second, Anik Jana third, and Srijita fourth.

Finale prize notes put hard cash on those names, and the gap between the two cups was not small. The senior champion’s cheque was listed at 5 lakh rupees. The junior champion’s was listed at 2 lakh rupees.

Prof. K. S. Ghosh, writing on the Lalit Kala school post that night, said Ariyan Tamang scored 28 points on 1 March, the most of six singers that evening, and still missed a top-three chair. The twin-crown night did not settle every argument in the room.

How Zee Bangla Ran Two Age Tracks at Once

Channel promos in May 2024 had already said the new season would drop the guru-mentor chairs used the year before. Season 20 had five mentors. Season 21 put eight judges on four teams of two, and the singers were sorted into those four groups. Auditions were opened to anyone aged 4 and above, with no upper cap announced, which is how children shared a season with adults.

Shooting had begun at the Rajarhat studio by mid-May. The first episode went out on 2 June 2024. ZEE5 later catalogued 79 episodes that opened on 2 June 2024 under the Bengali title, a long weekend run rather than a short talent sprint.

THE FOUR JUDGE TEAMS

• Kaushiki and Indradeep: classical vocalist Kaushiki Chakraborty with composer Indradeep Dasgupta; this pair had Deyashini Roy.
• Raghab and Iman: singers Raghab Chatterjee and Iman Chakraborty; this pair had Atanu Mishra and Satyajit Deb Roy.
• Javed and Jojo: playback singer Javed Ali with Jojo Mukherjee; this pair had Mayuri Darani and Anik Jana, and later took Team of the Season.
• Shantanu and Antara: composer Shantanu Moitra with singer Antara Mitra; this pair had Aishi Chakraborty and Sai Shastri.

Moitra has been on and off this panel since the first Bangla season in 2006. Kaushiki had judged kids editions years earlier. The 2024 panel was large, but it was not a new bench so much as a stacked one, built so two age tracks could be scored in the same episode.

Five Kids Seasons Came Before This Split

Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Bangla first aired on 4 December 2006, a regional cut of the Hindi parent show that began in 1995. The Bangla edition is on season 22. It has spent a large share of that life changing what a “winner” even means.

Season 5, in 2007-08, was already a Li’l Champs run. Seasons 8, 11, 12, and 14 were kids seasons too. Season 9 ran as Duet Champs. Season 7 was reserved for blind singers. Season 16 split prizes by genre, with an overall winner beside folk, classical, and modern cups. Season 20, in 2022-23, gave the main title to two adults at once, Ashmita Kar and Poddopolash Haldar.

SEASONS THAT WOULD NOT CROWN ONE SINGER

The first Bangla champion, Aneek Dhar, won in 2006-07 and, in the same year, also won the Hindi Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge. He later hosted Bangla seasons 6, 7, and 12. The show has always been willing to recycle its own winners as presenters. What it has not done, for long, is keep any one scoring system in place.

Jojo Mukherjee’s School Sent Both Champions

On 2 March 2025, Kolkata music school Lalit Kala posted that both new champions were its students, Deyashini for more than 10 years and Atanu for more than 5, under Jojo Mukherjee, also named there as Simaanta Sarkar. Jojo was one of the eight judges. Deyashini replied on that thread, offering pranam to Jayanta Sarkar and to “jojo dada.”

Three weeks later the other school on Atanu’s résumé spoke. The Shankar Mahadevan Academy, on 25 March 2025, said a Shankar Mahadevan Academy Hindustani vocals student had taken the Zee Bangla title.

Atanu was not a first look at a child singer. His public page lists a third-runner-up finish on Zee TV’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs in 2022-23, plus an Akasher Superstar win and a Superstar Singer 3 run, and it places him in Contai in East Midnapore. On the 2024 Bangla show he kept drawing Manna Dey songs, the same well he had used on the Hindi kids circuit. The junior cup went to a boy the franchise already knew.

What the Senior Title Bought After March

Deyashini, in a 19 March 2025 interview, said she still had no playback offer. Album offers had come, she said, and she was talking to music directors in Mumbai. She also said she was trying to become a complete stage performer, dance included, because singing alone no longer held a Bengali television title.

The year that followed looks like a working singer’s calendar, not a film-song launch. All India Radio’s Kolkata station put her on its Sur Mahal live slot on 17 April 2025, singing “Banshi Keno Gay.”

Deezer lists three later singles under her name: Dugga Maayer Joy that September, Kala Amar on 24 February 2026, and Jagannath Chaka Nayan on 17 July 2026. On 10 December 2025 she posted a thank-you to Victoria College after a campus gig. The senior title bought a stage and a release schedule. It did not, on the public record of those months, buy a film song.

Atanu’s clips kept circulating on music studio channels into late 2026. The junior champion’s path is still a child’s path: more stages, more covers, the same circuit that fed him into the Bangla show in the first place.

Ayush Gupta Lifted One Trophy, Not Two

By Durga Puja 2025 the channel had already rebuilt the panel. Promos for the 2025-26 season sold a Nabaratna bench of nine judges, including Shantanu Moitra, Kaushiki Chakraborty, Jojo Mukherjee, and Antara Mitra from the year before, plus Rupam Islam, Jeet Gannguli, Sreeradha Bandopadhyay, Rupankar Bagchi, and Subhamita Banerjee. Abir Chatterjee stayed on as host. The junior and senior labels did not come back.

That season opened on 6 September 2025, Saturday and Sunday at 9:30 p.m. It ended on 28 June 2026 with one champion, Ayush Gupta of Islampur, who also took the viewers’ choice award. Gitashree Chowdhury was named first runner-up, Srijan Porail second. The public season record lists no parallel kids trophy beside them.

That is the longer read on the night both champions were named. Two cups made 2 March 2025 look like a break with the past. Season 22, already finished, showed it was a break the channel knew how to reverse.
