Xiaomi Launches Redmi Pad 2 in India With Helio G100-Ultra Chipset, Starting at Rs 13,999

The new Redmi Pad 2 is official in India. With a MediaTek Helio G100-Ultra processor under the hood, Xiaomi’s latest budget tablet arrives at a time when the mid-tier Android tablet space is heating up fast.

Available in two fresh colours and three memory variants, the Redmi Pad 2 tries to hit the sweet spot between affordability and utility—ticking boxes like a large display, a capable chip, a beefy battery, and even a kids mode baked right in.

Let’s unpack what this new tablet brings to the table.

Designed for Budget Users, Without Feeling Cheap

At first glance, the Redmi Pad 2 doesn’t scream “budget”. Xiaomi seems to have done a decent job of giving the device a clean, solid finish.

The tablet is available in Graphite Gray and Mint Green—both pretty easy on the eyes. Its design leans minimalist with rounded corners and a matte rear finish that doesn’t pick up fingerprints too easily.

Even the camera bump is subtle, neatly integrated in a pill-shaped housing.

The Redmi Pad 2 weighs around 490 grams, and though it’s not feather-light, it feels balanced in the hand. The bezels are slightly thick, but for a budget tab, nobody’s really nitpicking.

Performance and Hardware: A Fresh Entry for Helio G100-Ultra

Xiaomi is debuting the MediaTek Helio G100-Ultra chipset in India with this device, and it’s a name that’s not been seen in other tablets so far.

The G100-Ultra is based on a 6nm process, offering a mix of two Cortex-A75 cores and six Cortex-A55 cores. What that translates to is smooth everyday performance—web browsing, YouTube, gaming on low-to-medium settings, all doable without major hiccups.

Paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, the Redmi Pad 2 feels fairly future-ready, especially considering the price.

One small thing to note—no 5G variant for now. It’s Wi-Fi only. But at this price, it’s an expected trade-off.

Price, Storage Options, Launch Offers

Xiaomi seems to know its audience well. The pricing starts at Rs 13,999 and tops out at Rs 17,999. Here’s how the three variants are stacked:

Variant RAM + Storage Price (INR)
Base 4GB + 128GB Rs 13,999
Mid 6GB + 128GB Rs 15,499
Top 8GB + 256GB Rs 17,999

Sales start June 25 via Mi.com, Amazon, and Xiaomi retail partners across India. Early buyers using select bank cards—Axis, ICICI, SBI—can get an instant Rs 1,000 discount, effectively bringing the price down to Rs 12,999 for the base variant.

Display and Battery: Big, Bright, and Built for Streaming

The Redmi Pad 2 comes with a 10.6-inch LCD display, offering a 2K resolution (2000×1200 pixels) and 90Hz refresh rate. It’s plenty sharp for the price, and the refresh rate gives it a snappy, fluid feel while scrolling.

The brightness maxes out at 400 nits, which is decent indoors but might struggle under harsh sunlight.

Battery-wise, this tablet is packing a 8,000mAh unit—big enough to last through two days on casual use. Xiaomi claims it offers up to 21 hours of video playback and 26 hours of reading. There’s 18W fast charging, though it ships with a standard 10W charger in the box.

One-liner? It’ll last you through a Netflix binge without dying on you halfway.

Cameras, Software and Extra Features

Cameras on tablets rarely make headlines, but Xiaomi has put some thought into this.

The Redmi Pad 2 gets an 8MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera, which includes a center stage-like auto-framing feature for video calls. It actually works decently well for Zoom or Google Meet.

Software-wise, it runs MIUI Pad 15 based on Android 14. It’s optimized for large screens, supports split-screen multitasking, floating windows, and even a special ‘Kids Mode’ with parental control settings and screen-time limits.

And yes, there’s also Widevine L1 certification, so Netflix, Prime Video, and Hotstar all stream in full HD.

A small heads-up: no stylus support, and no bundled keyboard accessory.

Is It a Good Buy? Depends on What You Want

This isn’t an iPad rival. Not trying to be.

But in the sub-Rs 18,000 space, the Redmi Pad 2 punches above its weight. If you’re looking for a casual tablet for reading, watching stuff, a bit of work, or even as a learning device for kids, this hits most of the right notes.

Here’s where it stands out:

  • Excellent battery life and display for the price

  • Respectable performance with Helio G100-Ultra chip

  • Decent software optimizations for multitasking

  • Launch offers bring down effective pricing

  • Still no LTE option or stylus support

With brands like Realme, Motorola, and even Nokia crowding the budget tablet scene, Xiaomi’s move seems calculated.

The company knows Indian buyers are price-sensitive, but increasingly expect devices to do more—without looking or feeling cheap. The Redmi Pad 2 might just walk that tightrope well enough.
