Petrick and Foster win Athlete and Football Player of the Week awards

Petrick repeats his feat

Ian Petrick of New Boston Huron soccer team has won the Monroe County Region Athlete of the Week award for the second time in three weeks. He received 410 votes out of 1,437 cast by the readers of The Monroe News. Petrick scored four goals and had two assists in two games last week, helping his team clinch the Huron League title. He also won the award in the week of Sept. 25-30.

Foster leads SMCC to victory

Ian Foster of St. Mary Catholic Central football team has been voted as the Football Player of the Week by the readers of The Monroe News. He garnered 258 votes out of 973 cast. Foster had a stellar performance in SMCC’s 42-14 win over Flat Rock on Friday, rushing for 173 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries. He also caught a 25-yard touchdown pass and made six tackles on defense.

The other nominees for the Athlete of the Week award were Nolan Sanders of Airport soccer, Jessica Costlow of SMCC volleyball, Brooklyn Langenderfer of Mason volleyball, Brandon Commet of Ida soccer, Jenna Pilachowski of Jefferson cross country, Mia Miller of Summerfield volleyball, Azariah Duran of Monroe tennis, Sarah Giroux of Flat Rock volleyball and Madison Slack of Milan volleyball.

The other nominees for the Football Player of the Week award were Wyatt Dirkmaat of Ida, Malachi Pribyl of Jefferson, Matt Foor of Airport, Joe Krolak of Gibraltar Carlson, Vaughn Brown of Erie Mason, Hunter DeBarr of Whiteford, Trey Parker of Dundee, Micah Smith of New Boston Huron and William Gaskell V of Milan.

How to vote

The polls for the Athlete and Football Player of the Week awards are open every Saturday at noon and close every Wednesday at midnight. You can vote once per hour for your favorite candidates at The Monroe News website. The winners are announced every Thursday.
