A Look Into the Traditions and Excitement of Savannah State’s Probate
Probate is more than just an event at Savannah State University—it’s a celebration of culture, unity, and tradition. Nadia Qualls, the 87th Miss Savannah State, gives us a sneak peek into this highly anticipated moment for the university. As a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc., she knows just how much goes into making the night unforgettable.
With the event quickly approaching, the student body is buzzing with excitement. For those unfamiliar with probate, it’s a momentous occasion where different Greek-letter organizations at Savannah State come together to showcase their newest members and celebrate their hard-earned achievements. This year’s probate promises to bring all the energy and enthusiasm that has become a hallmark of the event.
What Is Probate All About?
If you’ve never been to a probate before, Nadia is here to break it down. “A probate is basically a presentation show where D9 Greeks and organizations here—well all of our Greeks and organizations, whether you are a D9 or not—come and present themselves to the student body, to their parents,” she explains. The goal? To show off what the members have learned during their initiation process and celebrate their accomplishments.
For Qualls, the probate is a significant moment for students and their families. It’s not just about the excitement of seeing new members introduced; it’s about showcasing the history, values, and pride each organization holds. “It’s an amazing time to showcase what they’ve learned through their process,” she says, emphasizing that it’s a key event for the Savannah State community.
What Students Can Expect at the Event
As the big day approaches, the anticipation grows. So, what exactly can students expect from this year’s probate? Nadia sums it up simply: “You can expect to see hype, energy, parents being excited, people yelling and screaming.” There will be presentations by a range of organizations, including the Zetas, Alphas, Delta Sigma Pi, and the Sigmas, each bringing their own style and flavor to the event.
The energy will be palpable as members showcase their outfits and dance routines. From the bright matching outfits to the hype-filled performances, the evening will be filled with excitement. “People just having hype energy coming to see their presentation” is what Nadia anticipates, and it’s clear that this year’s probate will be no different.
The Full Spectrum of Greek Life at Savannah State
Though the event is centered around the D9 organizations, it’s a full Greek life celebration. “Everyone is going to be there,” Nadia says, noting the presence of other fraternities and sororities like the Iotas, AKAs (Alpha Kappa Alpha), and the Qs (Omega Psi Phi). It’s a diverse gathering, a true representation of the unity that exists among the Greek organizations at Savannah State.
This sense of togetherness is one of the things that makes probate so special. It’s not just about the new members of each organization; it’s about the entire Greek community coming together to celebrate each other. “A lot of Greek letter organizations will show,” Nadia explains, highlighting the inclusive spirit of the event.
Nadia’s Personal Excitement: A Sneak Peek at the Alphas
While all the performances will be memorable, Nadia has her own personal favorites. “I look forward to seeing the Alphas,” she admits. As Miss Savannah State, she’s particularly excited to see the five new Alphas who are making their big debut. “We have two Alphas right now on our yard, so I’m excited for our five new boys coming out,” she says with enthusiasm.
Nadia has been following their journey closely. “They already have been walking around doing what they do,” she says, hinting at the energy they’ve already been bringing to the campus. She’s eager to see how they’ll bring that same energy to their presentation and what they’ll contribute to the vibrant community of Savannah State.
The Excitement of the Revealing Moment
For Qualls, the highlight of probate is the final reveal. “My favorite part? The revealing,” she says with a smile. It’s the moment when new members finally step out into the spotlight, showing the world who they are after all the anticipation. There’s a special kind of magic in seeing someone you’ve known or admired make it to this significant moment in their journey.
Once the new members perform their routines—complete with eight-counts, solos, and introductions of their names and accomplishments—the crowd erupts. It’s a celebration of all the hard work that led up to this moment. “I’m ready to see the revealing,” Nadia says, and it’s clear she’s just as excited as the students who will be taking the stage.
