Two of the most talented players in the Marin County Athletic League (MCAL) have revealed their college plans for next season. Zach Taylor and Charles Williams, both from Marin Catholic High School, have committed to play for different Division I programs.
Taylor to join Stanford Cardinal
Taylor, who was named the MCAL Defensive Player of the Year, has decided to join the Stanford Cardinal in the Pac-12 Conference. Taylor is a versatile linebacker who can also play as a defensive end or a safety. He recorded 72 tackles, 12 sacks, four forced fumbles, and two interceptions in his senior season. He also contributed on offense as a tight end, catching 18 passes for 312 yards and four touchdowns.
Taylor said he chose Stanford because of its academic reputation and its football tradition. He said he was impressed by the coaching staff and the facilities at Stanford. He also said he liked the culture and the atmosphere of the campus.
“I’m very excited to be a part of the Stanford family,” Taylor said. “It’s a great opportunity for me to grow as a student and as an athlete. I’m looking forward to playing with some of the best players in the country and competing for championships.”
Williams to play for Utah State Aggies
Williams, who was a first-team pick on offense and defense as a running back and a defensive back, has committed to play for the Utah State Aggies in the Mountain West Conference. Williams was a dynamic playmaker for the Wildcats, rushing for 1,234 yards and 16 touchdowns on 156 carries. He also caught 22 passes for 378 yards and five touchdowns. On defense, he had 46 tackles, three interceptions, and two fumble recoveries.
Williams said he chose Utah State because of its offensive system and its coaching staff. He said he felt a strong connection with the coaches and the players at Utah State. He also said he liked the location and the environment of the school.
“I’m very happy to be a part of the Utah State family,” Williams said. “It’s a great fit for me and my style of play. I’m ready to work hard and contribute to the team’s success.”
MC football coach praises his players
Mazi Moayed, the head coach of Marin Catholic football, praised his players for their achievements and their decisions. He said he was proud of them for their dedication and their performance on and off the field. He said he was confident that they would do well in their college careers.
“Zach and Charles are two of the best players I’ve ever coached,” Moayed said. “They are not only talented, but also smart, humble, and hard-working. They have been leaders and role models for our program. I’m very happy for them and their families. I know they will represent Marin Catholic and the MCAL well at the next level.”
