The Lanarkshire Business Excellence Awards 2023, one of the longest running business awards in Scotland, have announced the winners of their ten categories at a gala dinner on Friday 1 September. The awards, hosted by North and South Lanarkshire Councils and sponsored by Albert Bartlett, recognise and celebrate the achievements and diversity of the Lanarkshire business community.
Albert Bartlett wins the Principal Sponsor Award
The Principal Sponsor Award was presented to Albert Bartlett, a family-owned company that produces and supplies potatoes to the UK and international markets. The company, which is headquartered in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, has been operating since 1948 and is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. Albert Bartlett is committed to providing tasty, wholesome food for proper meals, and has invested substantially in its infrastructure and brand development. The company has also expanded its product range to include frozen and chilled potato products, as well as retailer own label products.
Antibody Analytics wins the Innovation in Business Award
The Innovation in Business Award, sponsored by Commsworld, was won by Antibody Analytics, a biotechnology company that provides bespoke services for the development and characterisation of biologics. The company, based in BioCity Scotland in Newhouse, North Lanarkshire, was founded in 2015 and has grown rapidly since then. Antibody Analytics uses cutting-edge technology and expertise to help its clients accelerate their drug discovery and development programmes. The company also supports the local community by offering work placements and apprenticeships to young people.

- Lanarkshire’s Best New Business: MDH Recruitment, a recruitment agency that specialises in engineering and manufacturing sectors.
- Lanarkshire’s Best Business (0-10 employees): Big Bite Catering, a catering company that provides high-quality food and service for various events.
- Lanarkshire’s Best Business (11-50 employees): John McGeady Ltd, a civil engineering contractor that delivers projects across Scotland.
- Lanarkshire’s Best Business (51+ employees): The Boxshop Ltd, a corrugated packaging manufacturer that supplies bespoke solutions to various industries.
- Excellence in Customer Service: Jigsaw Travel Ltd, a travel agency that offers tailor-made holidays and corporate travel services.
- Lanarkshire Food & Drink Award: R&W Scott, a jam and chocolate manufacturer that produces premium products using local ingredients.
- Lanarkshire’s Apprentice of the Year: Kyle Burns from DMG Services Group, a mechanical engineering apprentice who has shown outstanding skills and dedication.
- Lanarkshire Community Impact Award: Climate Action Strathaven, a community group that promotes environmental awareness and action in Strathaven and beyond.
- Lanarkshire’s Green Business Award: Utopi, a smart building company that helps clients reduce their energy consumption and carbon footprint.
The finalists of each category were chosen from a record number of entries to the awards, which shows how highly regarded they are within the business community. The winners were announced at a prestigious black tie event at Motherwell Concert Hall, which attracted over 400 guests. The event was hosted by comedian and broadcaster Fred Macaulay.
The Lanarkshire Business Excellence Awards are a great opportunity to showcase the success and diversity of the local businesses, as well as to celebrate their contribution to the economy and society.
