The Institute for Tourism Studies Macao (IFTM) has announced the launch of a new Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) programme, aiming to nurture elites with a global mindset and advanced skills in the fields of hospitality and tourism management.
A pioneering programme in Macao
The DBA programme is the first of its kind in Macao, and one of the few in the world that focuses on hospitality and tourism management. It is designed to meet the needs of senior executives, entrepreneurs, consultants, and academics who want to enhance their knowledge, competencies, and research capabilities in the rapidly changing and competitive business environment.
The programme will adopt an applied research approach, which will enable the participants to identify and address complex and real-world business problems, and to generate innovative and practical solutions. The programme will also foster a collaborative and interdisciplinary learning community, where the participants can exchange ideas and insights with leading scholars and practitioners from different fields and regions.
A flexible and rigorous curriculum
The DBA programme will consist of two stages: coursework and dissertation. The coursework stage will cover four core courses and four elective courses, which will provide the participants with a solid foundation in the theories, methods, and practices of hospitality and tourism management. The elective courses will cover various topics, such as smart technologies, digital marketing, international events management, and gastronomy management.
The dissertation stage will require the participants to conduct an original and independent research project, under the supervision of a qualified faculty member. The research project should demonstrate the participants’ ability to apply relevant theories and methods, to analyse and synthesise data, to communicate and disseminate findings, and to contribute to the advancement of knowledge and practice in the field.
The programme will be delivered in a blended mode, combining online and face-to-face sessions. The participants will be able to complete the programme within three to six years, depending on their pace and progress. The programme will be conducted in English, and the participants will be required to have a master’s degree or equivalent qualification, and at least five years of relevant work experience.
A valuable opportunity for career development
The DBA programme will offer a valuable opportunity for the participants to enhance their career prospects and personal growth. The participants will be able to acquire cutting-edge knowledge and skills, to develop critical and creative thinking, to expand their professional network, and to gain recognition and credibility in the industry and academia.
The programme will also prepare the participants to become global business leaders, who can lead and manage organisations in a dynamic and diverse environment, who can create and implement innovative and sustainable strategies, and who can contribute to the social and economic development of Macao and beyond.
The programme is expected to be launched in the academic year 2024/2025, subject to final approval. The application period will be announced in due course. For more information, please visit the IFTM website or contact the programme coordinator.
