Hyderabad, Aug. 11 — After several days of intense cloudbursts, Hyderabad saw a break on Sunday, with heavy thunderstorms limited to the city’s northeastern belt. But the relief may be short-lived. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an “orange alert” for heavy rain late Sunday night into Monday morning and is predicting another wet spell from August 14 to 17, potentially affecting Independence Day and Krishna Janmashtami festivities.

Earlier on Sunday, light to moderate rains fell from 3:00 pm to 9:30 pm, with isolated heavier bursts in Shamshabad, Balapur, Medipally and Rajendranagar.
Forecast and Weather Pattern
The Hyderabad Rainfall and Flood Alert Agency (HYDRAA) issued a medium-range forecast, suggesting rainfall intensity will ease early this week but scattered moderate showers will continue between Monday and Wednesday.
The Met department’s longer-range model points to renewed rainfall from Thursday through the weekend, driven by a monsoon trough and moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal. That timing overlaps with Independence Day (Aug. 15) and Krishna Janmashtami (Aug. 16), potentially dampening celebrations.
