A black vulture known for its affection toward humans is on the loose in Georgia, after escaping from a nature show. The bird, named Buzz, has been seen wandering in residential areas, raising both concern and curiosity.
A Feathered Fugitive With a Friendly Streak
Buzz isn’t your typical vulture. Raised by humans, the 1-year-old bird has developed an unusually friendly demeanor. According to Robin Pressley, who operates Animal Adventures of Georgia, Buzz loves human interaction, enjoys cuddles, and even responds to “upies,” a cue inviting him to hop onto someone’s arm.
Despite his large wingspan and intimidating appearance, Pressley assured the public that Buzz poses no threat. “He may try to fly to you, but he is not dangerous,” she shared on social media, emphasizing that he is more of a companion than a wild predator.
The Great Escape and the Search That Followed
Buzz made his getaway from a flight cage at Historic Banning Mills in Whitesburg. How he managed to slip away remains unclear, but one thing is certain: he has been enjoying his newfound freedom.
He was last seen in Columbus, nearly 90 miles from his home, hanging out in a resident’s yard. Unfortunately, by the time Pressley arrived, Buzz had already taken off again. The search continues, with the hope that the unusually sociable bird will make his way back to safety soon.
Concerns Over Public Reaction
While Pressley is eager to locate Buzz, her biggest concern isn’t about him harming anyone. Instead, she worries that someone might harm him out of fear or misunderstanding.
“I just want people to know that he’s not aggressive, so I don’t want anyone to hurt him,” she told Fox 5 Atlanta.
For those who encounter Buzz, Pressley urges them to remain calm and avoid startling him. Instead, they should contact Animal Adventures of Georgia so that he can be safely retrieved.
What to Do If You See Buzz
If you happen to spot Buzz flapping around your backyard, here’s what you need to know:
- He may approach you, but he’s friendly and used to human contact.
- Do not attempt to capture or chase him, as that could cause stress.
- Contact Animal Adventures of Georgia immediately so that trained professionals can bring him back home safely.
A Vulture Unlike Any Other
Most vultures are known for their scavenging habits and cautious nature around humans, but Buzz is a rare exception. His escape has captured attention, not just for the oddity of a domesticated vulture on the loose, but for the heartwarming bond he shares with people.
As the search for Buzz continues, one thing is certain—his story is anything but typical.
