The 2023/24 CUC Primary Football League (PFL) and Girls’ Primary Football League (GPFL) kicked off on Saturday, September 23, with a series of exciting matches across the Cayman Islands. The leagues, which are sponsored by Caribbean Utilities Company (CUC), feature over 30 primary schools competing in various age groups and divisions.
High-scoring games in Group A
In Group A of the PFL Under 9 division, Cayman Prep defeated George Town Primary 8-0, with goals from Jaden Verhoeven (4), Ethan Cansell (2), Jaxon Cover and Joshua Bryce. In another high-scoring game, Savannah Primary edged out Prospect Primary 5-4, thanks to a hat-trick from Jaiden Whittaker and a brace from Kruz Whorms. Prospect’s goals came from Jayden Miller (2), Kaiden Manderson and Jace Carter.
In Group A of the PFL Under 11 division, Cayman Prep also dominated George Town Primary with a 9-0 win, with Joshua Bryce scoring four goals, Ethan Cansell netting a hat-trick, and Jaden Verhoeven and Daniel DeQuintal adding one each. Savannah Primary and Prospect Primary played out a thrilling 3-3 draw, with Savannah’s goals coming from Jayden Whittaker (2) and Kruz Whorms, and Prospect’s goals scored by Jayden Miller, Kaiden Manderson and Jace Carter.
Close contests in Group B
In Group B of the PFL Under 9 division, Bodden Town Primary beat Red Bay Primary 2-1, with goals from Jahziah Johnson and Javon Seymour. Red Bay’s lone goal was scored by Kaden Brown. In another close game, South Sound Schools defeated Cayman International School (CIS) 3-2, with goals from Liam Heffernan (2) and Oliver Cooke. CIS’s goals were scored by Kai Hulse and Oliver Jones.
In Group B of the PFL Under 11 division, Bodden Town Primary and Red Bay Primary drew 1-1, with Bodden Town’s goal scored by Jahziah Johnson and Red Bay’s goal netted by Kaden Brown. South Sound Schools and CIS also shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw, with South Sound’s goals coming from Liam Heffernan and Oliver Cooke, and CIS’s goals scored by Kai Hulse and Oliver Jones.
GPFL action
In the GPFL Under 11 division, Cayman Prep beat George Town Primary 4-0, with goals from Isla McLaughlin (2), Milana Thompson and Olivia Ridley. Savannah Primary defeated Prospect Primary 3-1, with goals from Leanna Clarke (2) and Brianna Smith. Prospect’s goal was scored by Tia Watler.
In the GPFL Under 13 division, Cayman Prep also beat George Town Primary 4-0, with goals from Isla McLaughlin (2), Milana Thompson and Olivia Ridley. Savannah Primary and Prospect Primary played out a goalless draw.
