Clayton State graduate joins governor’s office as administrative assistant

Shanice Williams, a Clayton State University alumna, has been appointed as the administrative assistant for Governor Brian Kemp. Williams, who graduated in 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in communication and media studies, will be responsible for managing the governor’s schedule, correspondence, and travel arrangements.

A dream come true

Williams said that working for the governor’s office was a dream come true for her, as she had always been interested in politics and public service. She credited her education at Clayton State for preparing her for this opportunity.

“I learned so much from my professors and classmates at Clayton State. They challenged me to think critically, communicate effectively, and be a leader in my community. I also gained valuable experience from my internships and volunteer work, which helped me build my network and skills,” Williams said.

“I am honored and humbled by this appointment. Governor Kemp is a great leader who cares deeply about our state and its citizens. I am excited to be part of his team and help him achieve his vision for a safer, stronger, and more prosperous Georgia,” Williams said.

A proud Laker

Williams is not the only Clayton State graduate who works for the governor’s office. She joins Roodgine Bray, a 2008 criminal justice alumna, who serves as a partner and attorney at the Davis Bozeman Law Firm and as a member of the governor’s Judicial Nominating Commission.

“Shanice is a brilliant, hardworking, and dedicated young professional who will do an excellent job as the governor’s administrative assistant. She is a shining example of what Clayton State alumni can achieve with their degrees. I am thrilled to have another Laker in the governor’s office and I look forward to working with her,” Bray said.

Williams also received congratulations and support from her alma mater. Dr. Lisa Conley, the director of career development at Oglethorpe University and the immediate past president of the Clayton State Alumni Board, said that Williams was an inspiration to current and future students.

“Shanice is a remarkable alumna who has made us all proud. She has shown that Clayton State graduates can pursue their passions and make a difference in the world. She is a role model for our students and a leader in our alumni community. We are very happy for her and we wish her all the best in her new position,” Conley said.

“Shanice is a wonderful representative of Clayton State University and our commitment to excellence, diversity, and engagement. She has demonstrated academic excellence, civic engagement, and professional success. She has also embodied our core values of integrity, respect, collaboration, and innovation.
