TEMPE, Ariz. — They say talent will always be discovered, no matter where it’s found. But for a group of young ballplayers from Atlanta participating in MLB’s DREAM Series, there’s a certain pride in being from a city that’s become a breeding ground for baseball greatness.
This annual event, held in Arizona, brings together 80 predominantly Black high school prospects to hone their skills under the watchful eyes of MLB veterans. The goal? Equip these players with the tools they need—on and off the field—to achieve their big-league aspirations.

“There’s something special about playing in Atlanta,” said Carson Ray, an infielder from the DREAM Series and a high school junior. “It’s humbling. You realize quickly how good everyone is, and that pushes you to stand out.”

“In Atlanta, everyone thinks they’re a star,” he said with a laugh. “It’s the same on the field. You’re always battling to prove you’re the best. But once the game’s over, we’re still tight—it’s all love.”

Participants like Ray see the event as a chance to elevate their game. “Being here is amazing,” he said. “You’re learning from the best. You see what it takes to get to the next level, and it motivates you to work harder.”
For players from Atlanta, the DREAM Series offers the perfect blend of mentorship and exposure. It’s a platform to take what they’ve learned at home and refine it with guidance from seasoned professionals.
