Assam Girls Outshine Chhattisgarh in Sub Junior Football Championship

The Assam girls’ team registered a convincing 3-1 win over Chhattisgarh in the Sub Junior (U-15) Girl’s Football Championship at Ludhiana on Monday. The team displayed a dominant performance and scored three goals in the first half to seal the victory.

Assam’s Early Lead

Assam started the match on a high note and took the lead in the 10th minute through Tanushree Barua, who headed in a cross from the right wing. The team doubled their advantage in the 23rd minute when Minakshi Bhuiya slotted home a penalty after a Chhattisgarh defender handled the ball inside the box. Assam continued to press for more goals and found the third one in the 35th minute, as Muskan Darjee unleashed a powerful shot from outside the box that gave the Chhattisgarh goalkeeper no chance.

Chhattisgarh’s Late Fightback

Chhattisgarh tried to regroup in the second half and created some chances to reduce the deficit. They finally scored a consolation goal in the 67th minute, when Riya Singh tapped in a rebound after Assam’s keeper failed to hold on to a long-range effort. However, Assam defended well and did not allow any more goals till the final whistle.

Assam’s Next Challenge

With this win, Assam topped their group ‘C’ with six points from two matches. They had earlier defeated Bihar 4-0 in their opening match. Assam will now face Meghalaya in their next match on September 5, which will decide the group winner and the quarterfinalist. Meghalaya also have six points from two matches, after beating Bihar 3-0 and Chhattisgarh 2-0.

The Sub Junior (U-15) Girl’s Football Championship is being organized by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) at Ludhiana from August 30 to September 12. A total of 24 teams are participating in the tournament, divided into eight groups of three each. The top team from each group will qualify for the quarterfinals, which will be played on September 9 and 10. The semifinals will be held on September 11 and the final on September 12.
