Major Construction Permit Granted for “Ambassadori Batumi Island” Project

In a significant development for Georgia’s coastal landscape, the Technical and Construction Supervision Agency has issued a construction permit for two artificial peninsulas and one artificial island, collectively known as “Ambassadori Batumi Island.” This ambitious project will cover a total of 102 hectares along the picturesque Black Sea coast, marking a new chapter in the region’s urban development.

Comprehensive Assessments Underpin the Project

The decision to grant this construction permit was not made lightly. It followed an extensive review process that included nearly 40 international and local studies, as well as an environmental impact report approved by the National Environmental Agency. The structural stability of the project’s hydraulic components was evaluated by the LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Bureau of Forensic Expertise, with additional insights from internationally invited experts.

  • Key assessments included:
    • Environmental impact studies.
    • Structural stability evaluations.
    • Expert opinions from local and international professionals.

Since September 2021, a thorough assessment and modeling of the structural integrity of the proposed peninsulas and island have been ongoing. This rigorous process involved collaboration with both local and international experts, ensuring that the project meets high standards of safety and sustainability.

Design and Planning by Renowned Firms

The design of the artificial peninsulas and island has been entrusted to YUKSEL PROJE, an international company with a strong reputation for successfully designing and operating airports on artificially developed land in the Black Sea region. Their experience with projects like Ordu-Giresun Airport and Trabzon Airport adds a layer of credibility to the Ambassadori Batumi Island initiative.

Additionally, the development plan and detailed documentation were crafted by ARUP, a globally recognized British firm known for its innovative urban planning strategies. Their expertise will help incorporate best practices for future city development, ensuring that the project aligns with modern urban needs.

A Vision for Public Accessibility and Recreation

One of the standout features of the Ambassadori Batumi Island project is its commitment to public accessibility. A remarkable 49% of the territory designated for the two peninsulas and the island will be allocated for recreational areas. These spaces will include:

  • Forest parks
  • Walking trails
  • Sports fields
  • Leisure spaces

Moreover, the project will integrate educational and healthcare institutions, hotels, residential buildings, villas, heliports, and a yacht club, creating a vibrant community hub. Throughout the development process, special attention will be given to mitigating environmental impacts, ensuring that the natural beauty of the Black Sea coast is preserved.

Infrastructure Development and Future Phases

The Ambassador Group, responsible for the project, is also tasked with developing the necessary infrastructure for the two peninsulas and the island. The first phase of this development includes plans for a public park spanning up to 4 hectares, an exhibition center, an administrative building, and a state-of-the-art multifunctional facility.

This ambitious project not only aims to enhance the coastal landscape of Batumi but also seeks to create a sustainable and accessible environment for both residents and visitors. With the construction permit now in hand, the groundwork for this transformative initiative is set to begin, promising to reshape the region’s economic and social fabric.
