Air Hostess Sexually Assaulted on Ventilator at Gurugram’s Medanta Hospital; Nurses Allegedly Did Nothing

A shocking incident of sexual assault at Gurugram’s renowned Medanta Hospital has come to light, where an air hostess claims to have been sexually assaulted while on a ventilator in the hospital’s ICU. The distressing part of the story is that two nurses were reportedly present in the room at the time but allegedly failed to intervene or take any action.

Alleged Incident at Medanta Hospital

The 46-year-old air hostess, hailing from West Bengal, was admitted to Medanta Hospital on April 5 after falling ill following a swim in a hotel pool in Gurugram. She had arrived in the city for a workshop organized by an airline operator. According to her complaint, on April 6, she was on a ventilator in the ICU when a staff member of the hospital sexually assaulted her.

At the time of the alleged assault, the woman was in a vulnerable and weakened state, unable to resist or even speak due to her medical condition. Despite this, two nurses who were reportedly present in the room did nothing to stop the incident from occurring.

The Air Hostess’s Harrowing Experience

The air hostess’s ordeal went unnoticed until she was discharged from the hospital on April 13. It was only after returning home that she confided in her husband about the traumatic incident. Following this, she filed a complaint with the police at the Sadar police station, detailing the events that took place while she was under medical care.

According to the FIR, the woman had no ability to speak or fight back because of her weakened physical state. This made it easier for the accused hospital staff member to carry out the assault. The presence of two nurses who, as per the complaint, did not intervene in the assault has raised serious questions about the responsibility of medical staff in such situations.

Police Investigation and Hospital’s Response

Following the air hostess’s complaint, the police have registered a case of molestation and other relevant sections of law against the accused staff member. Investigators are looking into the matter, and Medanta Hospital has pledged its full cooperation with the authorities.

In a statement to the press, Medanta Hospital confirmed that it was fully cooperating with the police and that it would take appropriate action once the investigation is complete. However, the hospital has yet to comment on the allegations involving the nurses in the room at the time of the incident.

The Role of Nurses and Accountability

The allegation that two nurses were present during the assault but did not act has sparked widespread concern. Hospitals, particularly in critical care units, have strict protocols regarding patient safety and the duty of care that staff must uphold. If the nurses were indeed aware of the assault and failed to intervene, questions about their accountability and the broader institutional responsibility of the hospital will undoubtedly come under scrutiny.

As investigations unfold, this incident highlights the vulnerabilities patients face in healthcare settings, especially when they are in a weakened state and dependent on medical professionals for their care and safety.
